š The ear is a very intimate organ of hearing and balancing, well it's also been used for aesthetics for hanging and piercing but all that is by the way. What this post is about is the habit of using ear cotton bud to supposedly clean the ear and hoping it was actually cleaned.
Did you really think some stained cotton buds brought out all the wax in your ear?
And there is also this form of addiction that it can lead to because of the soothing ticklish feeling. Sweet danger.
Okay. Why do you produce wax? The very same reason we produce mucus, from the the respiratory tract. For warmth and trapping dust and foreign bodies. So where do you want to clear it all out in the first place?
Normally people are not supposed to feel the wax blocking their ears if they ve not disturbed the whole process so, most times, either they used those cotton buds, keys, biro covers and a lot of things.
During my rotation at the Ear,Nose and Throat Unit (ENT),I interesting had a blocked ear and had to visit the ear syringing room.
There I was shocked by what I saw coming out of people's ears. Ranging from soaps, to stuffed papers, to cottons and many more with impacted wax, most likely pushed in with fail trials of self ear cleaning.
Do I need to make this louder
THE EAR CLEANS ITSELF
YES, that wax comes out with epithelial cells movement out of the ear canal. The exception to these are conditions for which there may be excess production and one of such is from disturbing the cells that produce the wax. They sense your foreign body cotton bud and attempt to save the day, but you are dipping along and enjoying the feel, without even seeing how close to your ear drums you may be.
Please stop. It's recommended that you seek the expertise of a healthcare provider for ear syringing. Here's why:
Ear Anatomy Expertise: Healthcare providers are trained to understand the intricate anatomy of the ear. They can assess your ear condition and perform ear syringing with precision, reducing the risk of damage to the delicate structures inside the ear.
Safe and Effective: DIY ear cleaning can push earwax deeper into the ear canal, leading to impaction. A healthcare provider can use specialized tools and techniques to safely and effectively remove excess earwax.
Prevention of Complications: Improper ear cleaning can result in injuries, infections, or even hearing loss. Healthcare professionals can identify and address any issues that may arise during the process.
Tailored Treatment: Not all earwax problems are the same. A healthcare giver can tailor the treatment to your specific needs, ensuring a comfortable and effective procedure.
Medical Equipment: Healthcare providers have access to medical-grade equipment and are well-trained in using them. This ensures a hygienic and controlled environment for ear syringing.
Professional Guidance: Your healthcare provider can also offer guidance on ear care, wax prevention, and provide recommendations to maintain good ear health.
Remember, your ears are delicate organs, and taking matters into your own hands can lead to unintended complications. So, if you're experiencing earwax buildup or discomfort, it's always a good idea to consult a healthcare giver for proper ear syringing. Your ears will thank you for it!
Stay healthy and take care of your hearing.
