My sister has been back in the Netherlands for a little more than 2 weeks now, and life has gone back to semi-normal for us here.
I've found more time to write, work a little, and also to have a little fun. I can't complain. Life truly has been amazing here.
On the last few days of my sister's visit here, we went to Tulum to see the Mayan ruins that can be found very near the beach.
It's actually the ONLY Mayan site that was built on the coast, being a seaport which made the trade in mainly jade and turqoise possible.
At the same time, Tulum is also the only Mayan site with a city wall. Interesting huh?
Tulum Archeological Site
The site consists of quite a few temples and side buildings.
I didn't exactly count them because to be honest, we came here to do my sister a favour, and we really wanted to get to the cenotes to cool off.
The site isn't going anywhere, and if it was up to me, I'd wait for a cooler day to visit it, and actually take it all in.
One of the side buildings, with in the background, what seemed like the main temple building
Better view of the tower that belongs to the main building
This is one of the other side buildings on the site.
Look at this guy chillin' in the sun
Some of these structures are quite impressive. Even as ruins.
It is a beautiful spot here. That's for sure!
SO close to the beach, but too much seaweed to have a swim. Do you see the brown stuff in the front?
Casa Tortuga Cenotes
Casa Tortuga is only around a ten minute drive from Tulum. It has 4 cenotes that are open to the public and a few more that have been closed off. For safety I figured.
This next one was the nicest, and the most beautiful of the four. It was amazing to get into the nice, cool water. Very refreshing!
The photo really doesn't do it justice. Such a beautiful place!
