Opportunities to grow personally are all around us. But even still, sometimes we just don’t see them.
Finding and availing ourselves of those growth opportunities can require some intentionality.
Here are some tips to help as you search for opportunities to grow.
Schedule some time each morning to reflect on your previous day. Ask yourself: Is the person I am today an improvement on the person of yesterday? When you review how you handled yesterday's challenges, do you see growth in courage, patience, problem-solving, kindness, and service?
Recognize that growth comes in different forms and sometimes in even minute degrees. Spiritual, emotional, mental, financial and physical progression are all important. Consider keeping a journal of your growth in these different areas. And celebrate when growth is achieved.
Keep your mind engaged to achieve continued growth. Seek opportunities to learn a new skill or experience a new adventure. For example, schedule a regular time to review (or set up digital alerts for) meet-ups, museum exhibits, travel tours, online courses, in-person classes, and libraries.
Introducing yourself to something new helps expand your scope and knowledge. And remember,
"The mind, once stretched by a new idea, never returns to its original dimensions."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
And, when you are more knowledgeable, you are often also more valuable and marketable in service to others.
Expand your horizons by investing in as much personal self-development as possible. Read quality books and blogs on personal development. Form a relationship with a mentor. Seek a spiritual advisor. Consider investing in a coach.
Remember that your growth is only limited by the opportunities you seek and appropriate. Use these tips to continually look for opportunities to keep growing in all areas of your life.
Questions for Self-Reflection:
- How creative am I in finding cost-effective ways to add to my education?
- What activities can I take part in to promote spiritual growth?
- How does spending time with influential people help me grow?

Some of my blog posts contain links to products. These are products I use personally or come highly recommended from sources I trust. I would recommend them to my own family. At no extra cost to you, the product creator gives my nonprofit organization a small commission if you click one of these links on my blog and purchase something. This is a win-win-win situation where I get to recommend great products to my readers who benefit tremendously from these products when they buy. My organization receives a small compensation to support our mission and the business gains a new customer. And you pay the same exact price you would pay if you had found the product yourself!
