I often wondered how I could take more interesting photos of the handmade things that I create. I tried to take photos in nature, in a little Godox cube at home but I've never tried to arrange pretty backgrounds for them. Until today.
Product photography is not something that I tried very often. I had this idea of doing this kind of photography years ago, just because it seemed a good choice for an introvert person like me. I was (still am) thinking about reducing my contact to humans (sorry humans ....ðŸ¤ðŸ¤«) as the I find social interaction quite exhausting at my current job (hairdresser).
Being creative means to be able to create beautiful stuff with whatever you have up for grabs. If you wait to have the perfect props, the perfect light, the perfect set up....you might as well never start. So today, while sitting at my beauty salon and having a long break....I had an idea. What if I would just play around with whatever I have and make some product photos for my handmade wooden earings and bracelet?
I have a lot of my paintings hanging up on my walls and I used one as a prop. Then I took some sea shells which were a part of a decorative thing in my bathroom. Another background came from a painting hanging in the bathroom as well. The coffee beans....tell me someone who doesn't have coffee in any form at work.
The dried lavender bouquet is made by me and it was the last thing taken from an actual living lavender plant which bloomed and died on me lol. I decided I would give it a nice haircut aka take the lavender blooms and then let it...die. Sorry plant.
I tried different styles
One cute idea I had in mind was to attach the earings next to a figurine which I "won" by eating a Kinder surprise egg. I buy myself some of those once in a while because I am a big kid. I keep the toys. I collect them. And I wanted to have this toy sit next to a cactus. Don't ask me why, it was my random idea.
I like how some of these came out. I do have an eye for pretty composition because I am a painter and an artist. Product photography is fun because of the props and because it pushes you outside of your comfort zone. I only did this with my phone and an editing app. This time I wish I had my Fuji. But I feel I might try a bit more in this field as I think it would help me promote my handmade stuff more. After all....talent means nothing unless you promote it, right?
