A very old olive tree (Olea europaea), which I found on a visit to the Roman Villa of São Cucufate, a villa from the Roman Empire which was the center of a private farm, with origins in the 1st century.
A tree that will certainly be more than 1000 years old, like many that have already been dated in the Alentejo region, planted more than a thousand years ago... Some have already been certified and dated over 3000 years old !!!
Take a look at the thickness of its old trunk... Truly impressive!
This amazing piece of history is located near Vila de Frades, Vidigueira (Alentejo region, Southern Portugal).
