Once, when I bought myself one of the top smartphones, I was shocked by the quality of the pictures and the opportunities that opened up in night shooting. I even wrote an essay about this, that smartphones have gotten very close to professional cameras.
Now I want to change my smartphone to a more modern one, where the characteristics have gone even further ahead.
I am not one of those who change a gadget to a new model every year.
But the psychology of perception works strangely.
At first, the pictures seem super-sharp and mega-high-quality, and then over time the phone's camera seems to lose its properties and it seems as if it began to shoot worse.
Cheap smartphones have such an effect – low-quality lenses tend to scratch.
But top-end devices have top-level protection.
Then why does it feel like the quality is no longer the same?
For example, I don't have this with a SLR camera. There everything rests on the physics and capabilities of the lens, as well as functionality.
It seems to me that this is all due to the fact that we see photos from others who have newer and better smartphones, and we begin to compare them with our own.
And you need to compare with your pictures that were taken immediately after the purchase and then there will be no difference.
Smartphone photography is still a diary of life for me.
I'm not ready to shoot any serious topics or projects on my smartphone yet.
Although if such a day suddenly comes, I am sure that I will be able to make a good photo report on a mobile device.
After many years of photographing, I came to a true understanding of the essence of photography.
It's a pity that it took me a dozen years to understand the essence.
So I would have already started shooting quite differently.
But I don't regret it much, because the path that led me to this is quite worthy.
