In the old days, when the wise Magister Muri - over time, this romantic term disappeared, leading to that of architect - let themselves be carried away by the force of symbolism, they resorted to figures, such as those of the lion, as guardians and at the same time protectors, not only of the place in question, but also of what was inside.
There is no doubt that the most famous lions in Madrid -even the singer-songwriter Joaquín Sabina gave them some prominence in one of his best-known songs- are the ones that protect the neoclassical door of the Congress of Deputies, a building located -eye to the stat- in the Carrera de San Jerónimo -holy hermit, who is always represented with a lion at his feet- place from which you have a beautiful perspective of another eminent building, which also continues the symbolic tradition described: the Gothic monastery of San Jerónimo el Real, popularly known as 'los Jerónimos'.
Antiguamente, cuando los sabios Magister Muri -con el tiempo, este romántico término desapareció, derivando al de arquitecto- se dejaban llevar por la fuerza del simbolismo, acudían a figuras, como las del león, como guardianes y a la vez protectores, no sólo del lugar en cuestión, sino también de lo que hubiera en su interior.
No cabe duda, de que los leones más famosos de Madrid -hasta el cantautor Joaquín Sabina les dedicó cierto protagonismo en una de sus canciones más conocidas- son los que protegen la puerta neoclásica del Congreso de los Diputados, edificio situado -ojo al dato- en la Carrera de San Jerónimo -santo ermitaño, que siempre aparece representado con un león a sus pies- lugar desde el que se tiene una hermosa perspectiva de otro eminente edificio, que además, continúa la tradición simbólica descrita: el monasterio gótico de San Jerónimo el Real, popularmente conocido como ‘los Jerónimos’.
