What's up, Hive! A late night at finishing some editing. I spent time onboarding a phenomenally talented artist within the
family. Not even sure if she's set up her account yet, but definitely follow
. She seems like a natural fit for the Hive community, and even after the opaque process of explaining what a blockchain is, let alone our specific blockchain, she soaked up all the information and was enthusiastic about joining the space. It reminds me of the golden era of Hive onboards in 2017 when it was practically a full time job. I told her, this is the perfect time to join Hive!
With that, I do have new photography to share and it is very new! Last night I got together with Farah of Lovely Organic Apothecary and Moustache Jim, a longtime friend and Minneapolis photographer. A few months ago, all of us were going through our own existential crises. We decided we wanted to collaborate on something just for fun. We talked to our mutual friend Danni to see if she’d be available to model and our theme became the Renaissance concept of morte paintings. These typically involve the depiction of skulls or rotten fruit. The reminder of our mortality and death.
Danni confirmed and we were scheduled for an early December shoot. We all shared regular correspondence leading up till last night. Boxes of fruit and vegetables just past their prime were collected and we convened at Farah’s home yesterday evening. I’ve wanted to work with Jim on a project for years, but seeing him shoot a medium so foreign to my mirrorless Nikon was truly a pleasure. Large format Hasselblad and film process was quite a novelty. I got in to photography in 2000 and quickly made the commitment to digital, so Jim’s process was an entirely different world.
One of highlights for me personally was finally executing my scorpion shoot concept. It’s known that I have a collection of unique pets, one of which is a tailless whip scorpion. I’ve always wanted to shoot with her on a model’s face. This shoot was a particularly perfect fit with dichotomy of aesthetic beauty and rotting fruit. I hadn’t talked to Danni about the idea of the scorpion at all, but brought her along just in case. Once Danni held her, she was all in. “Lets do it!”. After years of imaging this concept, we finally pulled these images from the creative ether.
These photos will be used to promote and market a collaborative photography event in February, but especially with my unfortunate truancy, I wanted to share something worthwhile for my first post back. There will be more to come […less scorpion for those that are freaked out]. With more time and less commitments, I’ll be back here on Patreon with regularity. I’m revisiting old shoots and creating new edits of overlooked gems, and my follow up post to this will share more about Dark Pinup Act Two NFT’s. I’ll be giving packs away as well.
