Olympic Plaza was a legacy of the 1988 Winter Olympic Games that Calgary hosted. It was a great central meeting spot downtown, adorned with fountains, and served as an ice rink in the winter. Now it's being completely replaced. The project looks quite massive; it's a full city block around, and the pits seem pretty deep already where the crane is. What's going to replace it is an arts campus and an outdoor plaza, which all look pretty modern, so even though I liked the old Olympic Plaza, I think what they are doing with this space potentially serves more people and adds to what is becoming a modern art district in the heart of downtown.
