The 4th city on my trip was Neum.
Neum a town in the only coastline that Bosnia Herzegovina has on the Adriatic sea.
As a Minnesota boy, I was very excited to see the sea!
This did not disappoint me, and I spent the vast majority of my time there sitting on rocks on the shore and staring at the sea and the mountains in the distance.
There is a group of mountains in particular that to me look like a sleeping giant.
From right to left, it looks like the eyebrow, the nose, the chin, and the body. I seriously stared at it for hours on end, while listening to the waves hit the rocks. It was pretty amazing.
The sunsets were incredible every day...
When I wasn't looking at the mountains and sea, I was enjoying the best rakija that I've ever had! There was a fancy restaurant called Laguna, and a cafe/bar called City Bar that had several kinds of rakija available.
In this area of Herzegovina, the specialty is Travarica, which is made of a blend of several herbs. I think it tastes a lot like basil, but it's 80 proof.
My favorite is Viljamovka, which is made from a specific type of pear.
I actually got drunk in Neum. It was the first time in 10 years that I had been drunk.
I would order Viljamovka, and someone would insist that I also have Travarica. It is a potent combination...
The reason I came to Bosnia Herzegovina to begin with was a series of dreams that started around 8 years ago. After the first one, the dreams kept repeating that I ended up here, and eventually the dreams included Serbia as well.
In the first dream, America was full of vampires, so I had to leave. I got on a ship, which was also full of vampires! I jumped off the ship to escape them and landed on the shore in Bosnia.
After some research, I learned that the only place that could be was Neum.
When I was there in real life, I found the exact spot from the dream. It's a tiny park, and the only flat ground in the whole town. It's also the only part of town that has grass.
The exact location from my first Bosnia dream
When I found it, I knew immediately, but nothing happened! It didn't unlock anything within me. I didn't feel any different, other than some deja vu.
So... I went back to my spot on the shore and stared at the sleeping giant.
I could seriously sit on the Neum shore forever...
I am heading north next to see if I can find some relatives in Prijedor.
I will keep some fond memories of Neum and the coast:)
