Another week, another contest hosted by . This week we are free to choose the picture, as long as it's about the sea of course 😏
If you want to participate you can find the rules here.
Mostly we see pictures of a calm and peaceful sea. But sadly nature can be rough as well. So I decided to go deeper into the force of nature this week.
I'll take you back to December 2013. In Europe there was a big storm (Cyclone Xaver) or also known as the North Sea flood of 2013. At that time we were at the Belgian coast and despite the warnings I had to go out with my camera. I remember at a certain point my hubby had to help me not being blown away! Our faces got a real scrub from all the sand that was blowing around like a sandblast.
There was only one rescue boat on the water just a couple of hours before the storm would peak.
In Belgium the wind reached force between 9-11, and Denmark had force 12.
Oil platforms in the North Sea were evacuated, airports had to close, rail traffic was disturbed, people were evacuated out of their homes. So yes, this was a huge storm. Luckily their were only a few casualties because a lot of precautions were taken. Nature can be so beautiful, but also so destructive.
