In this article I will show you my dresses and skirts capsule wardrobe. This is what I wear in a week as a homesteading, homemaking, stay-at-home mom of two little boys.
This summer I decided to really check in with that “letting yourself go” thing. I wanted to cultivate a wardrobe that would be comfortable (ahem…breastfeeding), feminine (gotta counteract that buzz cut and flat chest of mine), and presentable. I wanted to wear more dresses and skirts, and less yoga pants.

My capsule wardrobe changes often. As the weather changes, so must I. As my lifestyle changes, so must I.
I live far away from town and don’t get many opportunities to shop. I’d love to go browse through thrift stores and discover new boutiques, but that doesn’t really jive well with my current life-with-little-kids-and-grown-up-responsibilities status.
When I do get to go shopping, I go in with a plan, so I can get what I need during my limited time in town.
I’m telling you, if you have a shopping problem, move to the middle of nowhere, have some children, and raise your own food. Problem solved.
This is my summer capsule wardrobe for 2021. I will be wearing the same jewelry and shoes every day.
Dresses and Skirt Capsule Wardrobe Ideas for One Week
Saturday
Red tank top, black linen skirt with leather belt (my only belt).
I love this simple combination. The top is comfortable and versatile but looks more feminine and presentable with a skirt. The skirt is light and has excellently positioned pockets. I also love the mid-rise fit of the skirt.
Top: Ardene’s
Skirt: Simons
Belt: Simons
Sunday
Blue flower print dress.
I love how this dress fits and has some detail on the shoulders. It’s comfortable and fits me well. The colour and print is not my favourite. Small flower prints like this are trendy but seem to go out of style as fast as they came in. I try to stick with solid colours or patterns that are more classic like stripes, or some larger flower prints.

Monday
Grey stripe collared linen dress.
I love everything about this dress. The pattern, the length, the fabric, the sleeves, the belt. I feel classy, yet casual when I wear this dress.

Tuesday
Orange linen dress.
I purchased this dress when I was a few months pregnant with Beau. I thought I would be able to wear this dress during my pregnancy and postpartum. It eventually became too tight during the last few months of pregnancy, and now it’s too big.
Even though the colour is fading and some threads are starting to pop out, I still feel comfortable, feminine and presentable in this dress, so I’m not ready to let it go. I’d also like to learn to sew soon, and I’d like to turn this dress into a skirt because I love the bottom half. I don’t like the thin straps on the top of this dress because I have to be a little more particular about the bras I wear with it.
Dress: Reitmans
Wednesday
Black top and black mini skirt with brown leather belt.
This is another top I purchased for postpartum use. It’s a bit too big for me now, but it’s in good shape and works well for my breastfeeding needs. I’ve tucked it into this mini skirt which makes this simple top look more feminine. I was hesitant about buying a mini skirt and wasn’t sure it would be that comfortable to work in, but I actually don’t feel restricted at all. I always wear shorts under this skirt (and under most skirts, unless it’s way too hot).
Top: Ricki’s
Skirt: Simons

Thursday
Black long sleeve top with brown “suede” skirt.
It was a rainy day so I chose this comfortable long sleeve shirt. Wearing it with this brown skirt makes me feel extra fancy. I wasn’t sure I’d like the drawstring detail, but now I really appreciate that little bit of interest.
Top: Dynamite
Skirt: Amazon
Friday
Green tank top and black high waisted midi skirt.
This is a very casual top that I like to wear with this fancy skirt. I really love how lightweight and comfortable this skirt is. Even though I’m wearing it to scrub toilets and collect eggs, I still feel comfortable, feminine, and presentable. It has pockets, too, which are always welcome.
Top: Ardenes
Skirt: Amazon
