Language is not merely a descriptor - it is both the revealer and the creator. It shows our core beliefs when we least expect it, and it limits and defines the degree to which we can, and expect, natural healing to occur.
We have been sold a pack of lies about our bodies and the nature of healing.
- "Damaged nerve cells can't regenerate - you'll never walk again"
- "Cancer is terminal."
- "Covid-19 kills mostly older people."
- "I'm allergic to cats forever."
I started my day today, whilst drinking tea, confronted with one of these limiting statements. Someone had commented on my recent #Caturday blog post:
"But my husband is allergic to cats, so I've realized we can never stay in your beautiful home, unless god forbid, I come alone."
Missed my insightful blog š about cats as not only companions, but counselors and important Beings in an increasingly touch-deprived world? You can read and support it bere. But I digress...
Allergies are a SYMPTOM of poor health, not a permanent condition (unless you want them to be) and certainly nothing that needs to be clung on to or defined by. How do I know that? I used to be Miss Allergic. Hyper medicated and dangerously allergic to peanuts and eggs as a child, and just regularly allergic for half my adult life to dust, cats, feathers, fur, pollen and dozens of foods. And yet now we live with 3.5 cats and I eat everything I was previously "dangerously allergic" to.
What changed?
At the age of 19 I went to an inspired naturopath in Melbourne, Australia - in the 1980's long before naturopaths or natural healing were a "thing". Ironically, his name was Allan Hope, and he had a practice in Flinders Lane. A flinder is a butterfly in Dutch - that being which completely regenerates and transforms. He explained to me simply, and clearly, the pathology of allergy and how it was driven by 3 things: liver toxicity, gut health and mindset. My 19 year old self "got it".
6 months of a rigorous Liver Detoxing Diet, guided meditations and probiotics later and my dietary allergies improved markedly - they dialed down to being "sensitivities". I was able to be in the house with other people's cats. Eventually I stopped defining myself as allergic.
Over time, as I have been slack with diet or re-engaged with out-dated, old paradigm thinking, sensitivities resurface sometimes, for a while. Looking back, they resurfaced when I am poorly nourished and depleted. When I don't get enough of the right kind of sleep. When I am unhappy. When I stop feeding my body well.
FFWD 20 years and I relocated to Thailand. Rigorous detoxing and stringent fasting for a so-called-life-threatening conditioning enabled a systemic reset. My new life here away from western junk foods and environmental toxins created a new platform for health. In that place I bore a healthy child at the age of 41 after western medicine proclaimed I could never have children. My daughter wanted a cat - adores cats. And now we have 3. 3.5 to be exact. Read the blog. š
Am I allergic? Heavens no. It makes me laugh now when people say that.
Could it really be that simple?
Regeneration is the premise of life. We are reborn not just every day, but in each moment, as millions of cells die, morph and change. It IS possible to unpick systemic conditions, change the inputs and environment you live in, and to heal. But only if you believe it's possible and release the idea of a condition being permanent.
Natural medicine is only useful if you believe a condition is a transitory symptom and not a permanent fixture. No amount of obscure remedies for eczema, allergies or gut issues will help if you choose to cling on to the belief that "your condition" is yours forever. It's merely a symptom of imbalance - a gift to help you isolate and identify that which could be better.
Were we sold a pack of lies by allopathic medicine? Yes. But if we don't return the defective goods and trade up our underlying belief structures, then the onus is on us.
New paradigm living requires new paradigm thinking.
We can choose limits and outdated definitions. Or we can choose healing and regeneration. Perhaps the greatest natural medicine of all is consuming new thoughts, daily, and creating new belief structures about all that is possible.
