Thorny olive is also known as spiny oleaster and silverthorn. In Latin - Elaeagnus pungens. In Croatian we call it "trnasta dafina".
It is the plant which I've rediscovered just recently. I remember it back from 15-20 years ago when I was volunteering & working for Eco NGO "Žmergo", Opatija; Croatia. I spent 6 years in that NGO. It was one of the most influential NGOs in Croatia. The president of the NGO in that time & my boss was Duška Perić. She was also my 2nd mother. She partly raised me & thought me a lot. She was one of the greatest women I've ever met in my life! I hope she rests in peace now. 💙
On the upper photo you can sea the berries of trnasta dafina which are edible & very tasty. Duška had them growing in her garden & she introduced them to me. After she passed away, I couldn't find them anywhere till few days ago. The become ripe in May in Croatia.
Supposedly, trnasta dafina came to Croatia from China & Japan where it's considered even as a medicinal plant...
