Beautiful friends,
Here's page 6 of this art book documentation, from a journey I made back in 2006-7, by bicycle-train-ferry from Scotland to Slovenia.
Even though a lot of the drawing in this book is pretty heavy in places, a lot of it is humourous too. I love how art can portray even opposing aspects of reality - how folks can have absolutely contrary views, looking at the same artwork.
This has been a strong theme in my work over the years: folks' reactions being immediate, high-energy, and projecting their story very definitively onto the work.
As an artist working with the raw materials of emotion-energy-consciousness and the collective conscious, it takes a lot of inner journeying to 'separate' what is 'theirs' and what is 'mine'.
The boundary of separation is pretty illusional, in the end; it is a living boundary, and it has to be flexible and soft.
And I love that humour in art - playfulness and absurdity - help to soften our connectedness, and help our emotional bodies and flow to connect, weave, create new forms...
This page is much more subtle than the previous and following: it has affirmation, and I think that this may have been just when I was about to go out of the door of my apartment, to begin the journey... because the next image has 'me and the bike' - all ready to move. :-)
You can see the next page quite easily through this page, because it is such a light drawing; I really love working with layers in book format, and I may revisit this approach again soon.
Thank you again for witnessing, and I will share again soon: in the meantime, here are the previous posts about each of the earlier pages;
