Hi Hiveians! I was in a good mood today because where I am (in North America) it's mango season, which means, it's mango harvesting time everyone! π
Look at those fresh mangoes! ππ
I was inspired by the posts authored by and
about how they harvested their mangoes as well. I was surprised to see these amazing gardeners from all around the world, with beautiful photos and videos that show the love of farming. Today was a great day for me to also do that and so I finally have more food in the house.
We have two variations of mango trees. We have the normal mango most people are familiar with, then we have apple mangoes. Apple mangoes are a little bigger, it is not as juicy, but they do taste slightly apple-like.
My family and I waited very patiently (or not patiently haha) for the mango trees by a big wall near our house to start making flowers. Once the fruits finally started showing, we rushed outside to take a look.. and found MILLIONS for the local community. We didn't take that many since the community we are in, are formed by some buildings (I'm not gonna mention any names... ya' know) which contain about 700 apartments in total.
How they were harvested
Getting the mangoes off of a tree hitting it with a stick is quite a struggle. You can attach some tongs like my papa did or a blade. You can also attach a bag, so that when the mango falls, it falls into the bag instead.
We didn't have to worry about them breaking on the ground because I did it on top of soft sand and a pool which was next to it. Turned out the mangoes fell just fine into the pool hehe.
It doesn't have to be fancy, as long as it is functional.
Or as the Germans say, "Man kann doof sein, aber man muss sich zu helfen wissen".
Which means "You can be silly, but you have to know how to help yourself!"
On April 2nd, it is my birthday so it is right around the corner. We harvested the mangoes hoping we can make a delicious cake out of them since mango is my favorite fruit π
We got plenty of more after that since they were so delicious. Maybe I will share photos of what we make out of them when we do. Have a nice day!
