It is truly all about finding the balance that works for you. Having lived in Cambodia for 10 years, I technically had a lot less human rights than I did in my native country, the USA. However, I don't engage in politics, so it doesn't matter to me whether or not I can publicly criticize that country's president. I had much more economic freedom and working freedoms in Cambodia, and it was a fair trade-off for me. Even democracy is authoritarian if you aren't in the majority.
