Strawberry Time ..... It´s fun to plant them in containers!
It all started with just 2 plant newbies that I got from the garden center. Three years after, they have enormously multiplied and I did not even bother to plant any offspring that developed, they always find their own way and whenever they smell soil, they automatically reach out and settle there.... easy noh!
Self multiplication...
So what I always do is to simply put a pot with soil beside the pot where it grows. After some while when the plant continues to grow.... the off- springs that got developed will simply settle and start to get into the soil by itself. My strawberry plants are a good example of such process. The one thing I add as feeds are used coffee grounds as well as tea leaves. Sometime, I gave them squeezed liquid from potatoes when I make fritters and they really grow fine.
Original two plants, now they became two dozens...
Yeah, originally there were two plants, and they have now multiplied each year, its number becoming two dozens. They never cease to propagate even if you´re not doing anything.
I had been lucky with the variety I got because the berries are so sweet once they ripe in the pot.
When I harvest I simply add them to my smoothies or use as toppings for my pancakes and topped with the strawberry sauce.
Container plants for relaxation...
Although there are so many fields in and around the city offering to pick your own berries, for me it´s fun to see my own potted ones especially when the berries become so red and ripe. It´s a feeling I can not describe. Perhaps, its because I love nature dearly. It is simply giving me good vibrations to see them flower then develop green berries and later on become red.... and then comes the harvest..
The harvesting is done in stages as the berries do not develop all at once. So I might have a supply for about 2 weeks during the season. Of course, the sustainability is not 100%, unless you have a huge garden where you can plant them on the grounds...If I would need some, I would simply buy from the market.
