I guess I needed some sleep today. I slept twelve hours. Excellent recharge to catapult me into making some progress tomorrow morning. We're headed to get the truck, and I bet we'll plant out some seedlings. They're at an excellent size to plant out now.
Forest chooks
While I was out and about walking the yard for a minute after feeding animals with Farmer Sam, I decided a place to plant our painted mountain corn. It'll give me a way to use a part of the yard I've never successfully used. A place that drains well and has had a massive amount of organic matter put in, and near one of the places we put beans last year. I'm talking about the place where we put in the French drain last summer, in the forest right up by the house. It'll give me an excuse to work that area to better drain into the side yard where it'll also get used by the front corn patch before going to the lake. I need to use that water first before the damn government gets it. I use it better than they do.
Seedlings
To add another exceptional problem to my list (because I don't have enough excellent problems), church gave us two big bags of potatoes Sunday. They were offering them for folks to eat and nobody needed them, so I said I'd plant them and turn them into more potatoes. I guess I'm a Calvinist potato farmer now...
I need to find out how to plant potatoes. I've only ever done it wrong, so this'll be a fun experience. I'll grow a handful in buckets too as an experiment in small space growing. I'm trying to convince folks that there's solid food production they can do even on a small balcony, likely using potato buckets and porch rabbits.
When they gave us the potato sacks, I told Melissa that it was a sign from God that He wants us to grow potatoes and that He says I need more garden space. I'll update how that goes, or whether my wife will be stoned as a heretic 👌😉 add potatoes to the list.
I think I have exactly the space in mind for both corn and taters... Yeesh, we're gonna have a jungle of nightshades!
Good problems!
I'm gonna go read now. Work is about wrapped up, and it's a little late to be working on a post.
Love from Texas
