Hello beautiful foodies! Today I cooked upma for our breakfast. Upma is a south Indian breakfast, and is often called as Indian porridge. Upma is cooked with water from dry roasted semolina, coarse rice or wheat.
This flavourful breakfast dish, will keep you energize as you start your day. It is healthy and hearty too.
Ingredients
Rava/ semolina 1cup
Carrots (1/4 sliced into small cubes)
Ghee 2tbspn
Mustard seed 1/4 tbspn
Cumin seed 1/4 tbspn
Curry leaves 1 sprig
Fresh Ginger & Turmeric 1inch each
Lemon grass ( optional )
Turmeric powder 1/4 tbspn
Green chili 1pc.
Methods:
Dry roast semolina into low fire, mixing continuously to avoid burning semolina, approx 5 Min.
Prepare & chop necessary ingredients.
Heat oil in a pan, splutter mustard and cumin seed, curry leaves, green chili & onions.
Saute for few till raw smell is gone.
Add in ginger turmeric & lemon grass,
Continue to saute for 2 min.
Add in carrots continue to saute.
Pour in 2 1/2 cups of water and turmeric powder. Bring to boil. Put lid. Cook in low medium fire.
Put to lid, cook carrots till soft.
Add in roasted semolina, mix immediately while pouring. To avoid lumps. Continue mixing till water is absorbed.
Continue mixing till water is absorbed.
Add salt to taste.
And your upma is ready.
