that's me, cutting the Ewedu, i wish to cook.
Hello my fellow hivers, as I said in my Introduction to my self post, I stated my sudden new love for cooking. So today, i'm going to be talking about my new found love for Ewedu (Soup), the health benefits to it, more insights and knowledge about this natures gift to humanity, and how it's made to soup form.
Ewedu is the name the Yoruba tribe call it, it has many Native names from different countries and tribes, the English name is Jute Mallow or Jew's Mallow, its botanical name is Cochorus Olitorus.
What is Jute Mallow/Cochorus Olitorus/Ewedu

Jute Mallow is a greeny leave, edible as vegetable and when dried, its made into Tea. Its widely known in Africa, Asia, India and other parts of the world.
Jute Mallow leaves are rich with a lot of Vitamins, Minerals and Anti-oxidant. Iron, calcium, sodium, phosphorus, proteins, potassium, fibers, Vitamins A, C and E, folate, niacin and riboflavin. These nutrients fights against diseases from the body and helps in giving the body good health.
Its a good source of fiber (Good for weight management), also a good source for skin glowing, it keeps the skin firm and beautiful, with a lovely glow.
How to cook Ewedu Soup
As you already know, there are different ways of cooking Ewedu, because its widely eaten by different countries and cultures, I'm going to be explaining how its made by the Yorubas (Nigeria)
Ewedu in its leave form is soft to handle like any other leave, but when blended, it becomes slimy in state. before we cook, we have to blend it.
Steps in Cooking Ewedu
1. After cutting off the ewedu from the stems, it needs to be washed very well.
2. Put the leaves into the cup blender and add a little quantity of water and Blend the quantity of Ewedu, you wish you cook with a blender.
3. After blending, turn the blended ewedu inside the pot and add a pitch of salt.
4. Put your pot on your cooking gas and wait for 2mins.
5. After 2 mins and observing the foaming state of the ewedu in the pot, stair your ewedu properly and off your cooking gas. Your Ewedu soup is ready.
You can serve ewedu with Stew soup (blended pepper and tomatoes) in it with your meat or fish, and with any solid meal like, Wheat, Casava flakes (Eba), Semovita and lots more.
