It may have been the worst thing to happen to me all year. My boss told me that he wouldn’t sponsor my visa anymore. This put me in a panic because I had no idea how to stay here under that circumstance.
I spent a week freaking out. Then I found a lawyer (actually I found 4 and 3 weren’t very helpful, but the last one was, and was recommended to me by a fellow Hivester). I had a consultation and figured out that it should be possible to sponsor myself. All I have to do is prove my income and that I pay taxes. Easier said than done.
So the last two weeks I’ve been going over past payments, making invoices, searching for new students, and drafting a contract to prove that my students are actually paying me, and gathering some tax information to prove I’m paying taxes, and filling out the application.
Thanks to my boss being a bit of a dick, I finally registered as a freelancer, which should allow me to sponsor myself forevermore! Thanks to him, I learned how to do bookkeeping to make my taxes easier. Thanks to him I figured out the whole visa process without any assistance. Thanks to him, by this time next year, I’ll likely be able to expand my freelance work into a full fledged business with employees.
Once I get this application process out of the way and receive my visa, I can get back to creative stuff, improving my classes, and getting more involved in on boarding new members to have through weekly parties on Discord and activity on YouTube.
So once again, the bullshit was a blessing in disguise. Last time he got angry about nothing and decided to take out his mood swings on me, he nearly fired me but instead decided to cut my hours down to 15 hours a week instead of upping them to full time, which worked out perfectly. This time his decision not to sponsor me should have the same kind of positive effect.
And here I was freaking out.
I’ll still need to find a few more students to sponsor my visa without the part time work at the school but Now that I know how to do everything by myself, I can stop stressing about it and focus all my energy on the classes themselves and my other pursuits.
This is damn good news. Not getting too excited yet. I gotta collect the contract and print out a bunch more invoices and head to immigration next week. I’ll have a big celebration when I have my new visa in my hands.
