Did you know that there are two states in the United States that produce tea? The states are Hawaii and South Carolina. I recently discovered this while watching a tea documentary, where they interviewed the owner of Charleston Tea Garden. Surprisingly, it's located just 4 hours away from where I live in North Carolina. I had no idea that there were tea estates in the US, let alone one so close to me. This definitely caught my attention!
According to the Charleston Tea Garden's website, the tea bushes were brought from China in the late 1700s, and it wasn't until 1888 that a successful tea farm was established, thanks to the work of Dr. Shepard.
I'm planning to visit the tea garden and have already ordered some of their tea. I'm eagerly looking forward to trying their Island Green Tea with Mint and will write a review later.
