PREFACE: This guide on how to buy HIVE includes account registration processes and links. Most or all of which may contain my personal referral links that reward me with monetary benefits or platform credits when used. In order to offset these potential rewards and to provide additional benefit to the Hive ecosystem as a whole 20% of the contributions of this post are allocated to the Hive account and 100% of them are allocated to Power Up.
If you wish to circumvent any of my referral links you may simply visit the root domain of the platform in question (ie https://mexc.com instead of https://promote.mexc.com/r/xoFfmGZc).
NOTICE: Depending on your location you may need to use a VPN in order to access the cryptocurrency exchange that is highlighted in this guide due to local restrictions in your area.
Also, this guide walks through and shows most processes as they are done on a desktop PC. However, there should not be much difference if done on mobile and the links should still work if you're reading this or following along on your phone. If there becomes enough need / demand I will publish a mobile-centric version as well.
Now on to the good stuff...
Shortly after writing this article Hive community member
pointed out a much simpler method of converting other crypto to $HIVE with their comment: "check out https://simpleswap.io/ and https://swapspace.co/". These are classic bridges that I was unaware supported $HIVE and I will likely be using them from now on. However, the following steps in this article are still great if you are starting with fiat or are unable to use the bridges.
This guide assumes you are starting with fiat currency and begins by onboarding into $BTC. If you already have crypto, great, just scroll down to Register a MEXC Account and begin from there.
Step 1: The Unlikely Hero
Surprisingly enough, after trying many different platforms I have found that CashApp of all things, is the easiest and quickest way to onboard into crypto from fiat currency. If you don't have a CashApp account yet you may create one by visiting https://cash.app/app/7QG2X9J or simply Click Here.
Contrary to what I said before, CashApp does require that you download their mobile app and create an account on your phone.
Buy Some $BTC
Once you have created and set up your CashApp account you may follow along through their mobile app on your phone.
From the home screen:
- Click "Bitcoin"
- Click "Buy"
- Enter the amount of BTC that you wish to purchase
- Click the (⬆️⬇️) symbol
- Click "Send" and enter the amount you wish to send
- Click "Next" and paste in your BTC address then follow the on-screen instructions to send your BTC to that address
(If you don't already have a BTC wallet then come back to this step after you have completed the MEXC account creation portion of this guide.)
That's it! Your BTC is on the way to your exchange account and you are that much closer to purchasing $HIVE
Register a MEXC Account
You may create a MEXC exchange account by visiting https://promote.mexc.com/r/xoFfmGZc or simply Click Here.
If you receive an error or notice stating
"services are not available in your location"you will need to utilize a VPN to spoof your location. If you set your location to Canada through the VPN you will be able to create and use the account.
My go-to VPN is TorGuard because it's cheap, reliable, compatible with desktop & mobile, and they do not keep identifiable usage logs, but you are free to use any VPN that you desire as long as you can set your location to Canada. You may create a TorGuard account and receive up to a 60% discount on annual billing by using my referral link to visit
https://torguard.net/aff/crvne3889.phpor simply Click Here.
Once you have your MEXC account set up and logged in you are nearly done. You will have $HIVE in your Hive wallet in no time.
Purchase $HIVE and Send it to Your Hive Wallet
In order to purchase $HIVE on MEXC you will first need to send the $BTC you purchased earlier to your MEXC account and then exchange that $BTC for $USDT because the only $HIVE pair on MEXC is HIVE/USDT.
Follow these steps in order to fund your MEXC account with $BTC, exchange $BTC for $USDT, exchange $USDT for $HIVE, and then send your $HIVE to your Hive wallet:
If you have a crypto other than BTC you may select that from the list instead and still follow along with this guide. Just make sure you choose the correct token and network to fund your account.
- Click "Deposit" at the top right of the screen and select "On-chain Deposit" from the dropdown menu
- Under "Select Crypto" click the dropdown menu on the next screen and type
"BTC"into the search bar, then select BTC from the dropdown list Be sure to select "BTC" (Bitcoin) from this list and not "BTC2" or "BTCBAM" or any of the other variations - Under "Network" select "BTC" from the dropdown menu (DO NOT select "BSC")
- Copy the address that is displayed under "Deposit Address". This is where you will send the BTC from your other wallet in order to fund your MEXC account (presumably from CashApp if you are following this guide from the very beginning)
- Send your BTC from CashApp (or another wallet) to your MEXC BTC address
Once your transaction is confirmed on the network your BTC will appear in your MEXC account. Don't panic, this process can sometimes take up to 30 minutes depending on where you sent it from, but it will arrive as long as you copy and pasted your MEXC address exactly as it was shown to you.
Exchange BTC for USDT and Exchange USDT for HIVE
Once your transaction has been confirmed on the network you will see the BTC has appeared in your MEXC account. Now, you need to exchange that BTC for USDT so you can use the USDT to purchase HIVE:
- Type
"BTC/USDT"into the search bar at the top right and click on the "Spot" tab. Then select "BTC/USDT" from the dropdown menu - Switch modes from "Buy" to "Sell" and enter the amount of BTC you would like to sell for USDT and then click the red "Sell BTC" button
- Type
"HIVE/USDT"into the search bar at the top right and click on the "Spot" tab. Then select "HIVE/USDT" from the dropdown menu - Switch back to "Buy" mode and enter the amount of HIVE that you would like to buy using your newly acquired USDT
You're almost finished!! You have successfully purchased $HIVE and all you need to do now is withdraw it from your MEXC account into your personal HIVE wallet.
Fund Your Hive Wallet with $HIVE
This is the final step in order to fund your personal Hive wallet with $HIVE so you can start utilizing it to engage on the Hive network and, if you wish, perform the coveted "Power Up" function.
Hive in particular makes this part very simple since the username you selected when you created your Hive account is your actual wallet address. No need to deal with a long string of random numbers and letters:
Be aware that there is a 1 $HIVE withdrawal fee and a minimum withdrawal limit of 10 $HIVE from MEXC.
- Hover over "Wallets" in the top right of MEXC and click the "Withdraw" button from the dropdown menu
- Under "Select Crypto" click the dropdown menu and type
"HIVE"into the search bar and select "HIVE" from the list - Under "Withdraw To" enter your Hive wallet address (your username) into the "Address" bar
If you entered your address correctly the system will automatically match the correct network and you will see a notice informing you as such - Check the box next to
"No [Memo/Tag] Identifier" - Under "Withdraw Amount" type in the amount of $HIVE that you wish to withdraw to your Hive wallet and click the blue "Submit" button at the bottom
CONGRATULATIONS!!! You have successfully acquired $HIVE and sent it to your personal Hive account. You are now well on your way to becoming a contributing member of the Hive ecosystem
Why It’s All Worth the Effort
If you made it this far, you’ve already done the hardest part: you took action instead of getting stuck in analysis paralysis.
And honestly, now is a great time to onboard into Hive, simply because $HIVE is currently priced low enough that you can build a meaningful position without needing deep pockets. That is not a promise of future gains, and it’s not financial advice. It’s just a practical reality.
Low price points reduce the barrier to entry, especially if your goal is to participate, power up, and actually use the network.
I’m also fully aware that acquiring $HIVE can feel more complicated than it should at first. Between fiat onboarding, exchange accounts, swapping pairs, networks, and the occasional VPN curveball, the process can look like a lot. But once you do it one time, it becomes repeatable and straightforward. More importantly, it’s worth it because Hive is one of the few ecosystems where your account is your wallet address, participation is frictionless, and powering up actually means something long term.
If you hit a snag anywhere in this guide, slow down and double-check the basics: the token, the network, and the address. Most mistakes happen when people rush a copy/paste step. Take your time, and you’ll be fine.
If you feel you need someone to guide you or you have additional questions don't hesitate to reach out to me directly. You can find me in the official Hive Discord server by tagging me or email me at hive@crvne.com.
Welcome to Hive! Now that you’ve got $HIVE in your wallet, the fun part starts:
Power up, engage, and find your lane in the ecosystem.
