Helleu foodies! Hope you are warm, fuzzy, and stuffed as we welcome this winter season.
This is another food adventure of mine where I went to one of the most famous places in Gulshan, The Westin, Dhaka. Now, this trip was an unplanned thing for me, as I got home from Uni my mom asked me to get ready, we were about to head out about 20 minutes from then.
Without knowing when and where, I slapped on a shirt and my go-to black pant.
There was not enough time to be ready, which was not usual for me. So, by the time mom asked me to head downstairs I had worn my clothes, my socks by my clutches.
The car arrived moments after we went out on road. My aunts and their family came to pick us up. My socks were still in my hand, didn’t let them see the dirty green stuff. Now, they didn’t get any of the smell coming from my sock, my guess: the socks had given out its odor throughout the night. Or, they withstood the horror.
We were due for lunch buffet. We reached by 11 pm. The sun was still blazing with all its might. Everything else fell dark before its rays.
That’s me, gotta pay $4.99 to unlock me😗.
The one thing that I had to point out was the view. It was stunning, I could literally see my hometown from here, not specifying the place though😁.
The Food
I started with some starters/appetizers. First, I grabbed some of the remaining fish cakes (it was running out) with chili sauce at the left side of the plate, had a roasted onion just beside the slice of steak in the center. 2 kebab pieces with a unique green chutney at the bottom of the place, a roasted sausage with a fine cut of capsicum in between and a pair of nuggets below it with hollandaise. The white sauce by the right of the plate was a special sauce made for the fish cakes, don't know its name or ingredients but I can tell that it was similar to honey mustard.
Next, I brought in some of the same stuff except this time I got myself a crustacean, a lobster. You can see that the amount of beef steak has increased, it was just too damn good; easy to cut and medium rare in the middle, grilled to perfection. The chutney/sauce with the nuggets and the mayonnaise is on the further left side of the plate. Now, I'm one of those guys who loves good sauce. Not that I don't love or respect the originality of the food but, it just enhances the whole experience on the mouth. That mayo was a catalyst in bringing out the full potential of the flaky fish cake's softness. A true delicacy.
I went and got myself more of the sausage, chicken nuggets, flaky fish cakes, small beef steak, chicken pepperoni, more of that lobster, and that amazing mayo that comes from the fish section. I got a little wasabi too, out of curiosity. Trying out different ways to indulge in the vast verse of taste.
There were complimentary apple and orange juices that didn't help with the eating. Needed water, the one thing that we had to buy from the place -_-.
Along with these choices, there was also the option of watermelon, guava, mango, and a few more types of juices that I didn't get. I didn't want to hold any space in my stomach for these juices.
Moreover, there were different flavored yogurt that I missed out on😔. They were supposedly delish and had a positive effect on the stomach. Couldn't get their pics.
Still not done with appetizers :').
You might've guessed the white rings on the white plate, squid rings topped with a sauce I didn't recognize, sushi with a huge filling, two potato wedges, a lamb steak with added steak sauce, and Asian noodles Nuggets again with a new sauce this time, it was a sort of chili honey mustard. I found this sauce only in burgers from Burger Lab wayyy back in 2019, so, to find it here, again, was a blessing. And lastly, a bruschetta. The Asian noodles were a thing they might've come up with and weren't a fan of it by the end of the round or eating. I didn't try any other sushi because their fillings didn't interest me. There were sashimis too, in pink and orange/yellow but didn't have the storage for that.
Now, there were 2 more things apart from this pasta that I didn't get to click. they ran out the moment it was served. And, all of these were custom-made, ingredients that we were to choose.
It was this amazing and huge omelet made with butter most likely, the taste wasn't like it usually tasted which had a thick layer, covered with green chili and onion.
The second was a swarma, a classic one. Not too bad, a good portion of the kebab pieces, are hot and steamy.
There were a total of 4 kinds of pasta to choose from: penne, spaghetti, linguini, and this one that roughly resembles the usual pasta except this one was a tad bit longer. I had the tangy tomato sauce with olives and chicken bits.
Update: This one might be a ziti.
Mains
Because I had almost stuffed myself with the appetizers, I now had the grim task of eating the main dishes. Yes, as you can see, it was this huge lamb shank, pieces of different cheese, a beefy delight(beef curry), chicken curry, and rice. The beef was another wow that had me wanting it more. The lamb was hot but the piece was too damn big for me to cut down... I purposefully didn't take any chicken because I didn't want to cut the pieces of chicken. From the cheeses, the white was a block of goat cheese, the cheddar, and the feta cheese.
Now, there were more voices in the main dish section. 4 different kinds of biriyani, all of which wouldn't have sufficed the amount of money I had to spend to be there... there was a Hyderabadi biriyani, a tehari, chicken and beef pulao, and this rice.
After resting for 20 minutes, I headed for the desert section. A not-so-very-amazing slice of carrot cake, a heavenly caramel and blueberry cake, and a brownie that made the other places look sub-par. A chocolate bar on top and a soft chocolaty cake.
I loved the caramel cake so much that I brought it again once more, two slices this time. Another type of carrot cake is a chocolate black forest. The yellow gush was a mixture of fruit and bread which added a fruity sort of sweetness, none of those heavy cream that would make your calorie count rise to Mt Everest level. I forgot the yellow slices though... tell me down in the comment section what it could've been!
There was a chocolate fondue that I didn't get a pic of thanks to shyness and reluctantness. There were these sticks with biscuits on top, I only had to keep them under the fountain of sweetness for some minutes to make soak up all the chocolate, making it soggy with chocolate.
End Of Buffet
It was past 4 pm. The time for the food stations was now closed. It was time to go to the last station of our journey, the amazing rooftop on the 27th floor. There we were hit by the amazing glory of the sun, the perfect warmth thanks to the cool breeze.
Some amazing shots were taken, and almost all of the town could be seen from here. The breeze was a bit chilly, the fog slowly gulping the buildings from the further ends of the town.
There was a pool area along with bean bags and resting places near it. I didn't let go of the opportunity to take a dip. Thanks to me facing the sun, my face couldn't be seen from nicely.
My last view from the place, was the sun bleeding out its last rays before completely going out.
That was it, for now, see you guys on the next one!
