I love getting my son involved with cooking. He had been asking to make a pumpkin pie together for a few days and we finally did it. I taught him how to make a pie crust and he tried so hard to roll it out! The dough was too hard from the cold for him to put enough weight into it so he got bored with it after a little while, but not before I got a cute pic.
My mom got two chayote squash and neither of us had ever eaten it before. She started to try cooking it but then got intimidated and ate a hot dog instead, leaving the squash to me.
Apparently chayote squash can caramelize nicely when roasted, grilled, or sautéed. I didn't see any caramelization though. It barely seemed to cook at all for a long time. Maybe I filled the pan too full.. Eventually it did soften and the flavors of all combined did turn out unexpectedly tasty.
