We, Filipinos loves to party and Christmas isn't an exemption to it. Here in the Philippines, Christmas begins to be celebrated as soon as "BER" months comes in and ends. Specifically, by September 01 to December 31. In there, our country became the holder of the title: "World's Longest Christmas Season."
When December 24 arrives, the countdown will begin. More so, people gets undeniably busy preparing for Christmas Eve or "Noche Buena."
Some of the most common Filipino food presents are spaghetti, baked mac, classic pancit, pancit malabon, and meat dishes. Of course, it won't be complete without fruits, pork ham, lechon , rice delicacies, and lumpia.
How about desserts? The most popular sweets are fruit salad and crema de fruta.
In this blog, I will share the simplest steps on how to make the most notable "crema de fruta."
" Crema de fruta ... is a tradition Filipino fruitcake, usually presented during special occasions like Christmas and New Year. It consists of layers of sponge cake, whipped cream, gelatin and preserved or fresh fruits."
To make this "oh-so-delicious and sweet dessert", we only need five (5) different ingredients:
- For the sponge cake, we only need honey graham crackers.
- For the whipped cream, simply combine sweetened condensed creamer and all-purpose cream. Then, mix well.
- For the gelatin, dissolve the powder in a hot water and let it boil until becomes thick. Gelatin helps to make the dessert more thicker and delicious.
- For the fruits, we can use either preserved or fresh.

Now, let's discuss the procedures on how to make the traditional and legendary Filipino-styled Crema De Fruta:
- First, place pieces of honey graham butter. The pieces depends on the size of the containers to be used, make sure to fill every spaces.
- Second, add whipped cream.above the crackers. The amount is based on your preference but I suggest to not pour a lot as it'll be too sweet.
- Third, pour gelatin after the whipped cream.
Next, repeat steps 1-3 to form layers of fruitcake. The layers are based on your preference.
As a finisher, add fruits in the top layer then pour gelatin. Afterwards, place the containers inside the chiller. Wait until it becomes firm.

At first, I don't really intend to make this dessert. Reasons? Thought that I don't deserve this due to my unaccomplished academic requirements. Hence, realizations hits me as I got to finish those pending activities a day before Christmas Eve comes. Another reason, lack of budget. Thus, my scholarship allowance still made the impossibilities possible.
I allotted PhP 400.00 ($7.24) for the crema de fruta, alone. This amount of money made me able to make five containers with 4-layers of the dessert.
During the Christmas Eve, I almost ate the whole container. Why? Because it is so delicious. Not to sweet but too perfect for a sugar-conscious-lady like me.
