↑This was this morning↑ Not much I know, but I finally got some okra
↓This was yesterday morning, got my first banana pepper↓
And I cut the entire upper part of the remaining Romaine Lettuce, there are still adult leaves, so I am hoping it will sprout again, since we have so much more growing time left this year.
Maybe too late and too hot.
I had gotten the idea yesterday that, me and the Prince would take a walk back in the woods... it would be shady and cool... right?
Shady yes, cool definitely not.
But I noticed how big these tomatoes were, and a return of a couple of caterpillars, so I got out the spray
SO. this morning
There wasn't much to harvest, and I spent the time in maintenance, fertilizing, applying Sevin Dust to the squash.
I hate it, this is the first true pesticide I've used. I grew up with it being used routinely for everything from your garden (both food and flowers) and to kill fleas around the old homeplaces where dogs bedded up in the sand around the house. (or under the house)
I really REALLY hope to have avoided too much damage to the bees.
After watering in the fertilizer and then applying the pesticide, I set about mulching
I got that pile of ground up limbs and stuff for free; not the best mulch, but it's... FREE
I'd lifted up the runners so I could spread this stuff, and in the process of working it around back, I stepped on the end of the far left hand runner 😟
Spreading everything back out, I was inspired to do the same for my cucumbers both sides of the fence.
Folks I don't know what's up. Last year, the cukes were planted IN the dirt, and I had to work to amend that bloody soil and water them.
THIS year, I prepared a bed of good soil and tried to get them to run up on the fence.
Last year the cucumbers were very prolific, not so this year, not so far anyway
That is from my phone. I went out just after 7 am, it was about right.
By 9:30 when I came inside, it was only 85°F, but it was 73% relative humidity, it felt like I was walking around in a sauna.
I am grateful that I have a cool place to retreat into and escape the heat.
That is my harvest so far this year, minus what I've eaten or given away
Squash, cucumbers, radish, poblano, bell and banana peppers and OKRA (some cherry maters too)
Here's the same thing, but including the Romaine lettuce
