I am a day late but I have a very valid excuse. Yes this excuse involves food so that is what makes it 100% legit. That only counts on Food a fight Friday’s. You see when someone offers up some free salmon and all you gotta do is drive an hour to get it, I call that a pretty sweet deal. One that I would be pretty dumb to turn down. Hey, if it’s free.... it’s Me
Living in the Pacific Northwest we are all about that salmon. Growing up I have memories of my Dad and his buddies being gone for a week on their annual salmon fishing trip in the Pudget Sound. They would come home with coolers loaded with salmon covered in ice. Shortly after that grill was fired up and the some salmon fillets were prepped and thrown on. Now that is what I call fresh!! Put a couple long cuts in the fillet, place bacon strips in those cuts, throw a couple onions on top, a little salt and pepper and a couple lemon slices. Wrap it in foil and... Lord have Mercy!!!
Okay that is enough reminiscing I am starting to drool all over the place. I better wipe my phone off. If you can’t tell I do enjoy The taste of salmon just a little bit. So when my Dad called the other day and asked if I wanted any salmon...
My Old Man has been retired for a few years and he takes every opportunity given to go do some fishing or hunting. Who knows he is probably doing some turkey hunting right now. Lol. With all that hunting and fishing going on that means there is some serious meat stacking up in the freezer. With only 2 of them at the house, there is no way they can eat it all, but they will sure try their best. When he called, He said he was thawing out the old chest freezer in the garage, and just kept pulling salmon out of it. He had no idea he had that much in there. Well doesn’t that sound like a good problem to have. Terrible absolutely terrible
So after dropping my wheels off to get new tires put on, I cruised over to my Dad’s house to see how much salmon was left. Mind you I have a couple brothers that live close by and a cousin... let’s just hope they left me a good stack of salmon. Salmon is like gold around here I swear. By the way, how do you like my new wheels and tires I am putting on my truck after my axle swap? I got the wheels for free and why on earth are tires so dang expensive!!
Well I lucked out! My Dad must have held them at gun point as they each grabbed a few packs of salmon. Just to make sure they didn’t try anything funny. I am just gonna go ahead and say it.... My Dad is pretty Bad Azz!! He hooked me up with 10 packs of salmon, a pack of walleye, and a couple packs of cod.
The first pack I thaw out I am gonna smoke it. I have never done smoked salmon before but I can’t wait to try it. Check out how pink that meat is!! Ohhh Boy!!
Of course I had to call one of my buddies and brag a little bit. You know rub in. Then he offered up a trade for some Buffalo burger. Wha-Wha-What?!?! So a deal was made. 3 packs of salmon for 4-2 pound packs of buffalo burger. 8 pounds of Buffalo Burger!!! Now that is what I am talking about!!! Buffalo burger and Smoked Salmon are gonna be on the menu at the Splatts house this week!
