Today I will share a story about my trip to the city of Takengon Aceh some time ago and because it is a trip out of town there are definitely many things that are different from those in the city I come from and one that is definitely different is the culinary with a distinctive taste each area. Likewise, when I traveled to Takengon Aceh City, there were so many culinary delights that were still foreign to my tongue and knowledge, but there were also culinary delights in my city, also in this city, but with a very different taste, and this I encountered in several culinary delights such as grilled fish which I will share with all of you in this community.
Takengon Aceh City is a mountainous region with a cold climate with cool air and has a majority of the population working as farmers and fishermen. Because the city of Takengon is famous for its Lau Kawar Lake which has fresh water, of course. and because this area is surrounded by the lake so that many residents also open fish ponds which are more dominated by Tilapia as a typical freshwater fish inhabiting the Lau Kawar lake.
This grilled tilapia also exists in my city, but here it really has a different taste. And I will discuss one by one why this grilled fish is different. The first in the city of Takengon Aceh, Tilapia fish directly comes from the lake and then they make cages so that the Tilapia does not run off into the lake, because this Tilapia fish comes directly from the lake and is directly processed so that even with very simple spices, Tilapia in this lake is very sweet taste.
Then in terms of seasoning, I actually don't really like it, not because it tastes bad, but the seasoning here is too simple, which is only given the spices of turmeric, shallots, garlic and candlenut. The seasoning is finely ground and then rubbed directly onto the tilapia after the tilapia is cleaned, washed with additional lime juice to avoid fishiness. After being smeared with fine spices, the tilapia is directly grilled with charcoal. As a complement, when we order fish, we will be given free soy sauce sauce, of course, and because I was still full, I ordered this grilled tilapia by wrapping it so we can enjoy it at the hotel later.
And talking about the price of this grilled fish, it has different prices depending on the weight of the fish. And the fish that I ordered weighs 700 grams and I was very surprised that the fish here are very cheap. You can count it if I order 3 portions of rice, 1 portion of Siamese pumpkin shoots, 1 tilapia fish, all priced at Rp. 60,000 or the equivalent of $ 5 dollars. The price is very cheap when compared to the price of grilled fish in my city, and I admit that the taste of grilled tilapia in Takengon has a sweeter original taste even though it has simpler spices.
How about grilled fish in your area? Do you know the secret seasoning? Let's share in the comments column. And don't forget to keep following our posts. Greetings from us Tomi and Maya from the city of Binjai Indonesia.
