Indonesia is a country with a majority Muslim or Muslim population. Although we have a population with a Muslim majority, there is no social discrimination for non-Muslim residents. We are all side by side and live in harmony in Our Country, Indonesia. Just like our national motto 'Bhineka Tunggal Ika'. This means that although they are different, they are still one. The diversity that exists in Indonesia can be seen during Ramadan or the month of Fasting which occurs every year.
In this month of Ramadan, there are many seasonal traders who sell their wares. Starting from sweet cakes, fried foods, various kinds of noodles, various kinds of side dishes, various ice and other unique foods that we can only get during the month of Ramadan. The tradition of the people in Indonesia in general is that we break our fast with snacks that I have mentioned above. The euphoria or crowds that exist are also found on the streets which are always congested and potentially congested in the late afternoon when our people are looking for food to break their fast according to their wishes. This crowd is not only in big cities, but also in small areas, like where I live.
And today I will tell you how my family and I eat when breaking the fast. And today is a simple menu that I serve and all the menus that I make are the result of my own cooking without buying it from outside. The menu that I serve today is Mie Lidi Goreng, Chicken Sambal, tamarind vegetables, and for drinks I only make cold syrup and hot sweet tea. A simple dish but appetizing and eliminates Dehydration. And so that you are not curious I will describe them one by one.
Our first iftar dish we ate was spicy Lidi noodles which I mixed with bean sprouts and Hun noodles, there was also salty mertabak which contained Hun noodles. As well as Indonesian-style Sambosa whose contents are Potatoes with small chili slices inside. all is a choice depending on our tastes when eating it. And for drinks, we usually drink water first and then continue with hot sweet tea or iced syrup just to relieve a dry throat after a day of fasting.
After eating the simple iftar, we performed the maghrib prayer. After maghrib prayer we ate our dinner in the form of main course. The main dish for tonight is smoked catfish or fish that has been smoked and dried, then I use spicy coconut milk. There is also another menu, namely red chili sauce, free-range chicken, all of which I cook simply. There is also a menu of sour vegetables. This sour vegetable is a collection of several vegetables such as melinjau, long beans, young jipang and kincung as a fragrance with simple spices such as shallots, garlic, dried glugur acid and tomatoes and a little mixture of dried shrimp asin or ebi. Everything is served with the vegetables still hot. It's really very exciting especially added with hot rice.
Actually, there are still many other food menus that you can serve and eat when you break your fast, however, I think this dish is enough for one meal and we both eat. So how is Ramadan in your country?
