Today I decided to try something different, this afternoon after I finished my house chores I was so tired and hungry at the same time, I was carving for Plantain Chips, my friend onced told me that a home made Plantain chips taste much better than the ones we bought from Super Markets, so I decided to try it myself at home, the Plantain itself and other ingredients are available.
The Ingredients
The Plantain (Unripe)
Sealed Vegetable Oil
Red Pepper
Garlic
Finally Salt to Taste.
Step 1: The first step is to thoroughly clean your unripe plantain with clean water, then peel it with a knife or a cutter and cut it to your desired size (the size of the chip you want).
Step 2: Get a spoon and a plate, then place the salt inside the spoon and melt it with water, ensuring that the water is pure. Now sprinkle the salt water on the Plantain you have cut. Leave for like 3 minutes for the salt to penetrate the Plantain. As you can see in the second picture below.
Step 3: Now wash your Red pepper and Garlic, the sliced it and add a pinch of salt.
Step 4: This is a secret my friend told me; she said that if I don't want my Plantain Chips to gum together, I should fry them with a sealed Vegetable Oil.
So I heated the frying pan on a low medium heat for a minute or two, then added the oil (Make sure there's plenty of oil since we're going to deep fry the Plantain to make them extra strong).
Step 5: Add the sliced Red pepper and Garlic, then allow it to fry for few seconds
Step 6: Add your Plantain, and fry till it become brown and strong, turn the plantain to the other side and fry till it become brown and strong.
Step 6: Switch off the heat, the remove the Plantain from the oil and put in a sifter to drain the remaining oil, and here we go the Plantain chips is ready.
Allow it to cool off, then pack it if you want, you can as well serve with some chilled drinks or share with your family and neighbors If you have one.
Conclusion
This is how delicious and crispy these Plantain chips were, perfect for your Children's snacks on while they are going to school or as a lunch when they got home from school. I made them for lunch, but I didn't seem to be able to finish them, I kept some for my mother and gave the rest to the children in the neighborhood, who raved about them.
