Eating good, healthy and affordable food in a clean environment around my school is something that is very hard to find.
Have you ever gone to a place to eat only for you to find out their services ain't good at all.
Luckily for ,
and I, we finally saw a good spot here on campus.
Fascinating, right? Join me as I share our short experience with you.
Eating on campus is something I stopped doing since my first year in the university due to various reasons. A whole lot of bad experiences had taught me to stay away from the restaurants in school. Overpriced meals, poor customer service, non-quality meals - these are some of the reasons why I just had to stick to making homemade meals.
Yesterday, after sitting through 2 hours of a grueling class on the applications of thermodynamics, I, and
decided to cool off our heads before attending our other classes for the day. While thinking of what to do with the short break,
mentioned that he recently saw a flier of a restaurant nearby called "Elite" on someone's WhatsApp status and that we should go there to check it out. Due to my previous experiences, I wasn't too fond of the idea, but I decided to give this new restaurant a try.
The restaurant was at a place known as COLFHEC (COLLEGE OF FOOD AND HUMAN ECOLOGY). In my school, instead of using faculties, we make use of “colleges”, and COLFHEC happens to be one of ten (10) colleges in my school. I belong to the best one among them – the college of engineering (COLENG) – thanks for the applause, it’s appreciated...😉😂
On getting to COLFHEC, we asked for directions to the restaurant and it didn’t take long before we arrived at our destination. When we got there, what I saw was definitely not what I was expecting.
Despite the fact that they didn't have a lot of space, the restaurant’s setting was unlike any I’d ever seen inside school premises. With the little they had to work with, they managed to utilize it maximally, making the whole room look exquisite – just like a restaurant meant for the “ELITE”.
Stepping into the restaurant, we were welcomed with the smile of a very beautiful young lady whose name we’d later discover to be Funmi. She brought us the menu and after going through it, we all decided to settle for Yam and beans porridge. I’d have loved to show you Funmi’s picture, but she was a bit shy for the camera and didn’t give us her consent to being photographed.

While speaking with Funmi, we’d later discover that the restaurant was actually being ran by students of the department of Hospitality and tourism management(HTM), as it’s one of their practical classes. I used “ran” because, sadly, the practical session only lasted for a week, and yesterday (which was Friday), was the last day.
The purpose of the practical was to teach the students how to properly run a modern restaurant.
Thinking about all the food I saw on the menu, I started thinking of changing my department to HTM. But no, I love engineering too much.
When the food eventually arrived, it took a while before I could decide which was more beautiful – the food I was staring at, or the person that just served us the food. The hunger we felt and how good looking the food was didn't make us remember that we should’ve taken photos of the food. Perhaps next time..
We took drinks to supplement the meal. I and chose zobo (a locally made drink) while
settled for Teem (a soft drink). We were given a bill of N1250(which is about $3.05) for everything we purchased. We paid and stood up to leave for our next class.
Unfortunately, we were 10 minutes late for the class and the lecturer, who was already in class, sent us out. We had to wait outside all through.

All in all, we had a very nice meal under a serene and peaceful environment with a very good customer service - the best I've encountered in a while - and we had all these for a very cheap price.
It was really nice seeing something of such manner in my university. It gives me a feeling that perhaps there might be hope for the Nigerian educational system after all.
