It is the rainy season in the Philippines and we experienced frequent strikes of lighting every night. This lightning that reached the ground brought blessings to the people especially here in the province. Its bursting electricity is responsible for some of the fungi growing healthier and quicker.
We had risen late, the freezing morning made us too tired to get up. During weekends, we used to eat at 8 o'clock or 9 o'clock. Before we decided what would be our viand for breakfast, We roamed around to look for our Kermit, the cat. We looked for him, we were afraid it would be lost again.
Together with my travel buddy RM, we checked out if our cat strolled in the backyard. Amid the search, look what enticed us, we were astonished by the parade of wild mushrooms at the back of our house. I was glad they were not seen by our neighbours, these were early blessings. When my RM saw them, with a smile she immediately said to me, Mama, we have a dish for our breakfast, so yummy.
My child was exhilarated to have seen the array of mushrooms. I checked it out first if they were edible by looking at the colour of the gills. Perfect! It is tan.
With too much delight and excitement, we placed the harvested mushrooms inside the plastic and brought them inside the house to clean and cook them for breakfast.
Time to clean the mushrooms. We religiously cleaned them from dirt using water. Afterwards, my child helped me in cutting the stem. We discarded the tough stem, it is hard to cook. Rinse with clean water and they are now ready.
Now, I'm going to share how this simple harvest turns into a finger-looking good viand.
Since this is my husband's favourite, he volunteered to do this for us.

The cooked mushrooms are meaty and juicy. We have served an economical, delicious and nutritious breakfast this morning enough to satisfy our hunger.

We got a happy, satisfying and full stomach after all.
