Let me thank and
for giving this opportunity to introduce one of the traditional ( my personal favourite) kerala breakfast to the World.
Rice is an inevitable part of South Indian breakfast. Wide varieties of food are prepared everyday using rice flour in South India. One amongst is 'Idiyappam'.
Idiyappam served with traditional chicken curry.
The funniest part is,I was always amazed with the shape of Idiyappam during my childhood,as it resembled noodles!
Preperation.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Rice flour
- 1.5 cups Hot water
- 1/2 teaspoon vegetable oil
- 1/2 teaspoon Salt
Steps
- Rice is whashed, dried, powdered and roastedand kept aside.
- In a vessel,2 cup of water, salt and vegetable oil/ghee is mixed and boiled.
- later, the boiled mix is slowly added to the roasted rice flour and is stirred to get a smooth dough.
- The prepared smooth dough is now filled into the Idiyappam maker.
- Brush the Idiyappam mould with oil and sprinkle little amount of grated coconut into each mold.
- Dough is slowly squeezed out of the idiyappam Maker on to the mould in a circular motion.
- Steam for 10-15minutes.
After 15 minutes, the mould is taken out and Idiyappam is ready to be served.
This luscious delicacy is best served with Chicken curry/Beef curry/Egg Curry. It is a must try for all of us here and hoping to here from you all!.
