I want to share a very healthy traditional Indian dessert today that is Sweet porridge made of Gramflour or black chickpea flour. In Hindi we call it Besan ka Halwa. As Gramflour is used in it so it is gluten free, making it a healthier option. This is very delicious and very easy to cook. When you cook it, even the neighbors will get to know what you have cooked, due to the sweet aroma coming from cooked gram flour.
It is made with gram flour, ghee, dry fruits, water/milk. Water or milk anything can be used in its making. Using milk makes it even more delicious. But today I am making it with water only. Someday later I will surely post after making it with milk.
Ingredients
1 cup Gram flour
Half cup Ghee (clarified butter)
Half cup Sugar
1.5 cup Water
8-10 Nuts
Now let's start making it😊
First of all, take a thick bottomed pan. Add ghee in it, and wait for it to melt. After melting, add the Gram flour in it. And mix it well with the ghee.
Put the water in a pan for boiling, in another stove. As we wll add boiling water in the roasted Gramflour.
Keep stirring the Gram flour on a low to medium flame. After five minutes it will start releasing ghee like this.
After 8 minutes, Here you my see, the color of Gram flour is changing now., and it will soon start releasing ita nice aroma.
After 9 minutes of roasting, now you can smell the aroma in your whole house. That means it's perfectly roasted now and we can add boiling water in it.
Keep the flame to the lowest, and slowly pour the water in the mixture. Be cautious while doing so, it may burn your hand.
After pouring the water, mix it well with whole of the mixture.
Add sugar in the mixture and mix it well.
Stir it further for two minutes, sugar will mix well with the mixture.
So after 13 minutes, it will leave the edges of the pan, that means it is ready to be served now.
Garnish it with nuts and serve it hot.
Health benefits
This sweet porridge benefits you specially in cold and cough if you consume it while hot. Generally when someone has cold here, they just eat the hot porridge and sleep.. You will be better when you wake up😊😊
Few tips in the end
•• You can add finely chopped nuts when you add the sugar, as my daughter don't like nuts much, that's why I didn't add them. But yes adding them while making makes it even more delicious and healthy.
** This serving is for two people, so you may increase the amount of ingredients in the proper ratio, if you want to make it for more people.
•• You may decrease the amount of sugar to one third cup, if you like less sugar.
•• In place of water, you may add hot milk if you want, it's color will be lighter then.
•• Roast the Gram flour well, it takes a little time but it is most important to make it delicious and well cooked.!
