Sushi Bar - Rundle Mall
I was late again for the Legend's Bar Open Mic afternoon.
It turns out that most of the comedians didn't turn up, and all the tables and chairs were back in place by the time I got there. It means that I could have had a spot.
I managed to speak to a few comedians and have a chat, it's always good to see women there. One was quite flirty too. She even asked if I wanted a lift home with one of the other comedians. I declined, choosing to stay in the city.
Someone ordered potato wedges, and I nearly burnt my fingers trying to get a photo of one of the larger ones.
Staying back, I had time to browse Mad Zombie, a shop that sells collectable items like toys, action figures, etc. from various franchises. I mainly check out the 12 inch Black Label Star Wars action figures. I do need to stop collecting them, but the power of nostalgia is quite strong, and characters like Yoda and Obi-wan Kenobi embody character aspects that I want to emulate. I hope at some point I'll be able to sell them at a toy fair or something.
I also checked out Adelaide Comic Centre and found 2 issues of Masquerade a limited comic series written by Kevin Smith, and 3 of 4 issues of a Cyberpunk 2077 video game tie-in comic. I really should have been writing my own comics, and I really should read the ones that I had set aside while I worked at the Royal Adelaide Show.
After this I decided to explore the city a little, discovering that there is an abundance of businesses that I'd never heard of and I wondered how successful each of them were, many closed on a Saturday.
I had walked past the Sushi Hub on Rundle Mall a few times while deciding what to eat. I went past the little seated area one last time before deciding on entering and sat down.
Apparently, you're supposed to wait to be seated but it had been so long that I'd forgotten basic protocols. There was no sign suggesting this happen, but it makes it easier to order a drink if you do. Method to the madness.
But I sat at table 3 and began to admire the delicately prepared plated delicacies being paraded for my perusal via a conveyor belt. (And yes that sentence was deliberate! Chuckle.)
The napkin dispencer said "Save Trees" and the little black draw said "Chopstick" in the singular. I was worried that their method of saving trees was to only offer you one chopstick at a time...
Thankfully they didn't!
I thought the red square was an electrontic button, but it was just decoration for the handle on the chopstick drawer.
I was mildly disappointed, although it had me reflecting on the laziness provided by modern technology. Self opening chopstick draws would be cool though.
There are several double sided menus of different sizes, depicting the available food, desserts and drinks.
One menu shows you the prices of the coloured plates and it makes it easier to add up the cost of your meal as you eat and can adjust to your available budget as necessary.
My first choice was the Teryaki Chicken Cucumber as it was something safe and familiar, before trying some bolder new selections.
Something also semi familiar was the Crab Stick Salad. Not exactly adventurous, but you can't go wrong with it either.
Something new for me was the "Tamayogaki", or an omlet made by rolling layers of cooked egg. It tasted a bit like vanilla custard, but with smoked salmon and cream cheese included.
It was better than it sounds, trust me.
I wasn't sure what this next meal was but I had assumed it was fried chicken. It was chicken and it was fried, but not in the way I was used to and it wasn't referenced on any of the menus.
For dessert, I chose the Mochi Black Sesame and Cream which was very sweet, and soft to the point where eating it with chopsticks became a small challenge.
I thought I had a better photo, but I didn't. Someone had told me there was a storm on it's way and as the sky started to change I headed home to witness what appeared to be grey tendrils of storm cloud overtaking a pink cloud.
A few moments the sky was completely grey and the rain started. I made it home before it got too heavy.
Until next time, see you in the kitchens!
Thank you for reading.
