Hello friends of Foodies Be Hive! Today I want to take you on a tour of the fruit and vegetable market where I go regularly to buy my vegetables. Since I discovered this kind of markets I always shop there, because the freshness of the vegetables is so good that sometimes they look like painted ones.
Hola amigos de Foodies Be Hive! El día de hoy les quiero hacer un recorrido por el mercado de frutas y vegetales al que voy regularmente a comprar mis hortalizas. Desde que descubrí este tipo de mercados siempre hago mis compras allí, pues la frescura de las hortalizas es tanta que a veces parecen pintados.
This type of market, so frequent in the capital city, is often organized in public parking lots or closed streets, and in some cases they use awnings to protect the vegetables from the sun and rain.
Este tipo de mercados tan frecuentes en la ciudad capital muchas veces se organizan en estacionamientos públicos o calles cerradas, en algunos casos utilizan toldos para proteger las hortalizas del sol y la lluvia.
In Caracas we call them gochos or gochitos market, this is the nickname commonly given to the people from the state of Táchira, where they bring vegetables and fruits every week.
This market arrives on Wednesdays and leaves on Friday or Saturday, it all depends on how fast the vegetables are sold.
En Caracas les decimos mercado de los gochos o los gochitos, este es el apodo que comúnmente se les da a las personas originarias del estado Táchira, lugar de donde traen los vegetales y frutas cada semana.
Este mercado llega los miércoles y se van el viernes o el sábado, todo depende de que tan rápido se vendan los vegetales.
Any day of the week you'll get fresh stuff, but the best time to go is as soon as they open their doors on the first day, because you can practically take your pick of the bunch.
Cualquier día de la semana conseguirás cosas frescas, pero el mejor momento para ir es a penas abren sus puertas el primer día, porque puedes elegir prácticamente de primero.
There is no vegetable or fruit that is in bad shape.
The fruits are mostly quite sweet, which I love, and the prices are affordable.
What has made these markets so popular is that the vegetables are very fresh and the prices are quite low compared to supermarkets.
No hay vegetal o fruta que esté en mal estado.
Las frutas son en su mayoría bastante dulces, cosa que a mí me encanta, y sus precios accesibles.
Lo que ha hecho estos mercados tan populares es que las hortalizas son muy frescas y los precios son bastante bajos comparados con los supermercados.
The only problem with this market is that when you arrive you want to buy EVERYTHING, even vegetables you don't like because they look so fresh you think about giving them a chance 🙊😂 So I always go with list in hand and just buying the necessary amount until they come back the following week.
El único problema de este mercado es que cuando llegas quieres comprar de TODO, incluso vegetales que no te gustan porque se ven tan frescos que piensas en darles una oportunidad 🙊😂 Así que siempre voy con lista en mano y solo comprando la cantidad necesaria hasta que vuelvan la siguiente semana.
But just as the vegetables are wonderful, we can not leave out the good treatment you receive from its employees.
From the moment you enter this market everyone treats you with kindness, from the weigher to the one who is organizing the vegetables, and we can't leave aside their honesty.
Pero así como los vegetales son una maravilla, no podemos dejar de lado el buen trato que se recibe de sus empleados.
Desde el momento que entras a este mercado todos te tratan con amabilidad, desde el que pesa hasta el que está organizando los vegetales, y no podemos dejar de lado su honradez.
As a funny anecdote one day I went to buy my vegetables and when I went to pay I asked for some garlic, as I was in a hurry I paid running and left without realizing that I did not have the garlic. When I was putting things away in the cart, the lady in charge of collecting the money came over to give me the garlic I had left.
Cómo anécdota divertida un día fui a comprar mis vegetales y en el momento que fui a pagar pedí unos ajos, como estaba apurada pague corriendo y salí sin darme cuenta que no llevaba los ajos. Cuando estaba guardando las cosas en el carro se acercó la señora encargada de cobrar para entregarme los ajos que había dejado.
Fruits can last in the fridge for several days, even more than a week, but usually run out before the week to know exactly how long they last 😂.
Among my favorite fruits that I can never fail to buy when I go are peaches, oranges that are always juicy and sweet, pineapple that is not far behind with its incredible flavor, patilla, and finally, tangerines.
Las frutas pueden durar en la nevera varios días, incluso más de una semana, pero generalmente se acaban antes de la semana para saber exactamente cuanto duran 😂
Entre mis frutas favoritas y que jamás puedo dejar de comprar cuando voy son los duraznos, las naranjas que siempre son jugosas y dulces, la piña que no se queda atrás con su increíble sabor, la patilla, y por último, las mandarinas.
Now, if we talk about vegetables, the list gets a little shorter, because the truth is that I am not a lover of all vegetables, although it is something that I am constantly trying to improve.
But in my house I can't leave what in Venezuela we call "aliños", that is, onion, paprika, sweet bell pepper, chives, ajoporro, cilantro, parsley, celery, and other vegetables such as tomatoes, zucchini (which I love to incorporate into the dough of the arepas), broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, potatoes, carrots and cabbage.
Ahora, si hablamos de vegetales la lista se reduce un poco, pues la verdad no soy muy amante de todos los vegetales, aunque es algo que intento mejorar constantemente.
Pero a mi casa no me puedo ir lo que en Venezuela llamamos aliños, es decir, cebolla, pimentón, ají dulce, cebollín, ajoporro, cilantro, perejil, celery, y otros vegetales como tomates, calabacín (que me encanta incorporarlo a la masa de las arepas), brócoli, coliflor, lechuga, papás, zanahorias y repollo.
As they always have variety in this market, some days I buy another type of vegetables if I want to cook a special recipe.
Como siempre tienen variedad en este mercado, algunos días compro otro tipo de vegetales si quiero cocinar alguna receta especial.
