September 1.
For me, that date will always represent the start of the new academic year and at the same time end of the summer vacation. To make it sound more dramatic:
End of the freedom 😱.
Poor September - you are not my favourite month! 😂
But seriously, here in Europe, it is September when we usually start the new school year, although it varies a bit. For example, Norwegian schools already started with the lessons in August. That month is still too hot here in Spain but I suppose in Norway it is a perfect time to start again with the academic year. The last weeks of August usually bring me some end of the summer depression kind of feeling 😁. As a student, I had to leave behind the free days and hours and carefree feelings of joy.
As a teacher, I have to leave behind the same. The carefree feelings of joy hahaha.
I know, I am laughing now, but when Monday arrives I will not laugh that much. Being a teacher can sound like a perfect profession, you are surrounded by children, and everybody is happy with the received knowledge. Happy students, happy parents and happy teachers. A little secret - it is not always the case!
Although I have a bit different way of teaching. I teach piano to small groups (up to 4) and give individual lessons. The age - from little ones until elderly people. Really, there is no limit to starting with piano lessons. The results are not the same, of course, it depends on the talent and mainly on the hours that a student dedicates to practice. Also on the goal, each one wants to achieve. If playing the piano is just a hobby, a pastime, or there are more serious intentions like becoming a professional pianist one day.
Passion also plays an important role in studying. Regardless of the subject. You can't achieve very good results if you are forced to do it and you don't really enjoy the matter. You can be good at it, no doubt, but when an occasion would step in to change your studies/profession you would probably do it as your heart would dictate it.
I had it "easy" when I was small and decided that the piano would be my life companion. That way each September didn't hurt that much, as I knew at least piano lessons would be back again. But what about those who don't have a favourite subject...
Maybe seeing again friends can be a good thing and a motive for joy when the academic year starts again. I could say the same, I will see the children who love me (most of the time hahaha) and trust me. The parents also trust in our methodology and leave their children for us to guide them. But still, it means the end of my free hours 😁.
At the moment, this weekend I am still on the Punto de Espera (Waiting Point) before the lessons start. I will try to enjoy it as much as I can but in one blink of an eye, Monday is here. {sigh}
I saw that the new academic year doesn't start at the same time in the Northern Hemisphere as in the Southern Hemisphere (there it starts in February or March).
When does the new academic year start in your country?
Are you a parent, teacher or student, and do you like the start of the lessons?
When you were small, did you like to go back to the school?
Did you study what you had a passion for and did you enjoy it?
How would you spend your last free days if you were me? 😁
