Während man andernorts bereits im Hochsommer Panik vor einem kalten Winter schürt und die Leute auf harte Zeiten einstimmt, gehe ich es gelassen an. Ich kann es mir erlauben, gelang es mir doch dieses Jahr das allseits begehrte Gas fast vollständig aus dem Haus zu verbannen.
Lediglich ein bisschen wird noch benötigt, um eine warme Mahlzeit auf den Tisch zu bekommen.
Vor 20 Jahren hatte ich noch das ganze Haus mit Gas beheizt und das warme Wasser aus der Leitung wurde im Gasboiler erhitzt, seit kurzen aber über eine Solaranlage.
Später, die Gaspreise begannen zu klettern, stellte ich den Heizbetrieb auf Pellets um, hatte aber stets ein ungutes Gefühl dabei, mich abhängig von der Holzverarbeitenden Industrie zu machen. Zwar blieben die Preise für die Holzpellets über einige Jahre stabil, was sich gerade extrem ändert und ich beruhigte mich. Als dann aber der Ofen zu mucken begann, entschloss ich ihn gegen einen wasserführenden Holzofen einzutauschen, den ich im Notfall aus eigener Kraft bestücken kann.

But when the stove started to malfunction, I decided to exchange it for a water-bearing wood stove, which I could load with my own power in case of emergency.
Lange Zeit sah ich keine Notwendigkeit Bäume auf dem eigenen Land zu fällen, konnte man sich doch edleres Holz, für gerade mal 30 Euro den Kubikmeter ohne Probleme leisten.
Doch damit ist jetzt Schluss, bei einem Preis von 65 Euro für den Kubikmeter habe ich im Familienrat den Notfall ausgerufen, habe die Kettensäge auf dem Traktor verstaut und bin ab in den Wald getuckert um Brennholz zu machen.

Es war wohl eine Vorahnung die mich dazu trieb, schon im letzten Jahr ein paar Bäume zu fällen und sie dort trocknen zu lassen. Der Einsatz dieses Jahres erfolgt dagegen aus der reinen Gewissheit, in Zukunft nicht einen Scheit Brennholz mehr kaufen zu wollen.
Die Chancen das es gelingt stehen gut, sollten die eigenen Holzbestände doch für viele Jahre reichen und bei intelligenter Wiederaufforstung, gar bis ans Lebensende.
Fraglich ist nur wie es dann um die Gesundheit des Holzfällers steht, ob er auch im hohen Alter noch mit der Säge durchs Dickicht zieht, oder ob übereifrige Klima Chaoten das Holzfeuer gleich ganz verbieten?
Die Zeit wird es zeigen.
It was probably a premonition that drove me to cut down a few trees already last year and let them dry there. This year's effort, on the other hand, is made out of the pure certainty of not wanting to buy one more log of firewood in the future.
The chances that it succeeds stand well, the own wood existence should be enough nevertheless for many years and with intelligent reforestation, even to the life end.
The only question is what the health of the woodcutter will be like, whether he will still be able to cut through the thicket with a saw at an advanced age, or whether overzealous climate chaotic people will ban the wood fire altogether.
Time will tell.
Größere Sorgen mache ich mir um die Wasserversorgung, denn selbst das Bächlein, welches bisher jeden Sommer noch ein wenig Wasser führte ist komplett ausgetrocknet, wie man auf dem folgenden Bild sehen kann.

In der Hoffnung das der Winter Regen bringt, entstand die Idee mir einen kleinen See in Bachnähe zu graben und das Wasser aus dem, sich in der kalten Jahreszeit in einen Fluss verwandelnden Bach, in den Tümpel zu leiten, bis er voll ist und als Wasserspeicher für den Sommer dienen kann.
Der neue Nachbar, welcher im Besitz eines Baggers ist, hat bereits seine Hilfe zugesichert.
Dafür mähe ich ihm mit dem Traktor die Wiese, wenn es soweit ist.
Na dann, der Winter kann kommen.
