No one had doubts that Dune was going to be incredibly successful from the first installment. However Dune is preparing to begin filming its sequel. Its director, Denis Villeneuve, revealed from the beginning that he had plans to make two films. Their plan was to do both simultaneously, but Warner Bros wanted to ensure success in theaters and on HBO Max first. After seeing the box office gross and the good comments it received from viewers, the franchise got the green light for a second movie.

Filming will begin on July 18, 2022 and the second part of Dune is scheduled to premiere on October 20, 2023. The director is not in favor of working in a hurry; and believes that it is important to start working as quickly as possible. Dune Part 2 will be produced by Legendary Pictures and distributed by Warner Bros. Noting that, this time, it will not hit theaters and HBO Max in parallel, but will be released exclusively in theaters.
