It's no secret that when it comes to loyalty on The Walking Dead, the Dixon brothers come to the fore, and it's no surprise that sometimes between tough guys there's a kind of code of loyalty. Hello, people of the internet! And welcome to this section of my blog we'll call it: I'll tell you about... In this section I will give you my opinion of characters that either I bring or that you suggest me in the comments of a post of this section, today we will inaugurate this block with Daryl Dixon, post protagonist of the apocalyptic show The Walking Dead.
Para nadie es un secreto que cuando hablamos de lealtad en The Walking Dead los hermanos Dixon salen a la luz, y es que no es de extrañar que algunas veces entre tipos rudos exista un tipo de código de lealtad. ¡Hola, gente de internet! Y bienvenidos a esta sección de mi blog a la que llamaremos: Les contaré sobre... En esta sección les daré mi opinión de personajes que yo misma les traiga o que ustedes me sugieran en los comentarios de un post de esta sección, hoy inauguraremos este bloque con Daryl Dixon, post protagonista de la serie apocalíptica The Walking Dead.
For this analysis I will only take into account the events of the TV show (you know that in Survival Instinct, the story of the Dixons is told from before they arrived in Atlanta). We will delve into Daryl's personality, his development as a character (which in my opinion is one of the best in the show) and analyse every aspect of his evolution.
Para este análisis solo tomaré en cuenta los acontecimientos de la serie televisiva (ya saben que en Survival Instinct, se relata la historia de los Dixon desde antes de llegar a Atlanta). Ahondaremos en la personalidad de Daryl, su desarrollo como personaje (el cuál en mi opinión es uno de los mejores de la serie) y analizaremos cada aspecto de su evolución.
Daryl doesn't make an appearance until the third episode of the first season, where he shows off his brusque and uninhibited personality. An expert hunter and tracker with an uncanny, almost Labrador-like nose, Daryl had gone hunting for the group while his older brother, Merle, had accompanied part of the group on a raiding mission that ended badly for him as he was handcuffed and left on a rooftop at the hands of Rick Grimes.
Daryl no hace aparición sino hasta el tercer episodio de la primera temporada, donde hace alarde de su personalidad brusca y desinhibida. Cazador y rastreador experto con un olfato fuera de serie, casi como un labrador, Daryl había salido de caza para el grupo mientras que su hermano mayor, Merle, había acompañado a parte del grupo a una misión de rapiña que terminó muy mal para él, ya que terminó esposado por Rick Grimes y abandonado en una azotea por el grupo.
With a violent, volatile and dangerous personality, everyone is afraid to tell the truth to the hunter and when Rick takes it upon himself to do so, he is attacked by Daryl, who is eventually taken down by Rick and Shane. Left with no other options, he agrees to let Rick, Gleen and T-dog accompany him to look for his brother, but when he arrives on the rooftop, he finds only his brother's severed hand.
Con una personalidad violenta, volátil y peligrosa, todos temen decirle la verdad al cazador, y cuando Rick toma la responsabilidad de hacerlo, es atacado por Daryl que termina reducido por Rick y Shane. No teniendo más opciones, acepta que Rick, Gleen y T-dog lo acompañen a buscar a su hermano, pero al llegar a la azotea, solo encuentra la mano amputada de él.
Despite his grudge against the group, Daryl decides to stay with them and collaborate because despite being so gruff, he is quite intelligent and knows that although he is perfectly capable of surviving alone, it is easier to do so with a group.
Pese al rencor que le guarda al grupo, Daryl decide quedarse con ellos y colaborar, ya que pese a ser tan brusco es bastante inteligente y sabe que aunque es perfectamente capaz de sobrevivir solo, es más sencillo hacerlo con un grupo.
During the attack on the camp, they all decide to go to Atlanta's C.D.C. and during their stay there, Daryl was quite happy to get drunk, the first time we see him smile and have a friendly attitude with the rest of the group.
Durante el ataque al campamento, todos deciden ir a C.D.C de Atlanta y durante su estadía en el lugar, Daryl se mostró bastante contento emborrachándose, siendo la primera vez que lo vemos sonreír y tener una actitud amigable con el resto del grupo.
Due to the stay with the group and Merle's absence, Daryl gradually changed his attitude and that's when we can perceive something we didn't before. Daryl really is a man of noble feelings, loyal and concerned for the welfare of those close to him, but that personality was being overshadowed by the pressure of Merle, whose personality he mirrored in his younger brother with the intention that he would be a tough guy and that no one would ever hurt him again (as they both suffered childhood abuse at the hands of their father). This is how Merle would lead his brother to be unmerciful, uncaring except for himself and his brother, to step on the weak and get what he wanted or needed, to hit first and ask questions later, but to be loyal to whoever was loyal to them or helped them in any way. It is for the latter that Daryl stayed with the group as he found that they stood by him whenever they could.
Debido a la estadía con el grupo y la ausencia de Merle, Daryl poco a poco fue cambiando de actitud y es cuando podemos percibir algo que antes no. Daryl realmente es un hombre de nobles sentimientos, leal y preocupado por el bienestar de sus allegados, sin embargo esa personalidad estaba siendo eclipsada por la presión de Merle, cuya personalidad reflejaba en su hermano menor con la intención de que fuese un tipo duro y que nadie volviese a dañarlo nunca más (ya que ambos sufrieron maltrato infantil a manos de su padre). Es así como Merle orillaba a su hermano a ser poco misericorde, despreocupado salvo por él mismo y por su hermano, pisar al débil y obtener lo que quería o necesitara, golpear primero y preguntar después, pero eso sí, ser leal a quien era leal con ellos o les ayudaban de alguna manera. Es por esto último que Daryl permaneció con el grupo ya que se dio cuenta de que estos lo respaldaban cada que podían.
Little by little Daryl became Rick's trusted man and a good friend, loyal, responsible and trustworthy, arousing the jealousy of Shane who was Rick's best friend and who already had an internal conflict with him over Lori (Rick's wife), this is how Shane felt displaced by Rick, first indirectly taking away the position of leader of the group, then returning to unknowingly snatch away the woman he loves and to top it all, trusting a "stranger" over him who was his best friend.
Poco a poco Daryl fue convirtiéndose en el hombre de confianza de Rick y un buen amigo, leal, responsable y de confianza, despertando los celos de Shane quien era el mejor amigo de Rick y que ya tenía un conflicto interno con él por Lori (la esposa de Rick), así es como Shane fue sintiéndose desplazado por Rick, primero le quita indirectamente el puesto de líder del grupo, luego vuelve para arrebatarle sin saberlo a la mujer que ama, y el colmo, confiar en un "desconocido" por sobre él que era su mejor amigo.
By the time they arrive at the prison, Daryl's evolution is already extremely noticeable. Now considered a friend of the group, best friends with Rick and Carol, Daryl works as a team with everyone to ensure the group's survival and look out for each other. He no longer argues, and although he still has a brusque and uninhibited personality, he is no longer difficult or confrontational, as well as being totally loyal to his group.
Para cuando llegan a la prisión, ya la evolución de Daryl es en extremo notoria. Considerándose ya amigo del grupo, mejor amigo de Rick y Carol, Daryl trabaja en equipo con todos para asegurar la supervivencia del grupo y cuidarse mutuamente. Ya no discute ni replica y aunque siga teniendo una personalidad brusca y desinhibida, ya no es una persona difícil ni conflictiva, además de ser totalmente leal a su grupo.
Their loyalty is put to the test when Merle shows up and to get revenge on Rick, he kidnaps Maggie and Gleen (whom he found on the road) and tortures them into revealing Rick's whereabouts. Unable to bear the attempted sexual abuse Maggie is suffering in the next room, Gleen reveals the location of the prison. When Michonne learns of the fact, Rick and some of his people (Daryl included) enter Woodbury to save their friends, but Daryl is captured and exposed as Merle's little brother. The leader of that group and Merle's boss (to whom he is very grateful for saving him from bleeding to death after escaping from the rooftop) tests Merle's loyalty by asking him to beat Daryl to death, whom he accuses of being a terrorist, and although Merle initially beats Daryl, we later understand that he was just trying to buy time to think about what to do. However, Daryl's group returns to save him, indirectly saving Merle.
Su lealtad es puesta a prueba cuando Merle hace aparición y para vengarse de Rick, secuestra a Maggie y a Gleen (a quienes encontró en el camino) y los tortura para que revelen el paradero de Rick. No pudiendo soportar el intento de abuso sexual que está sufriendo Maggie en la habitación contigua, Gleen revela la ubicación de la prisión. El líder de ese grupo y jefe de Merle (al que le está muy agradecido por salvarlo de morir desangrado después de escapar de la azotea) pone a prueba la lealtad de Merle pidiéndole que mate a golpes a Daryl a quien acusa de terrorista, y pese a que Merle al principio golpea a Daryl, luego entendemos que solo intentaba ganar tiempo para pensar que hacer. Sin embargo, el grupo de Daryl vuelve para salvarlo, salvando indirectamente a Merle.
On the one hand, he knows perfectly well that Merle's actions are serious and wrong and that the group has every reason to not want to accept him within the prison walls, but on the other hand, Merle is his brother and he loves him as much as he is a brute, and Daryl has in his mind all the times he took care of him or was there for him, So he decides to stop Merle from committing stupid things against Rick or his group and not return to the prison to accompany and watch his brother's back and although the decision saddens Rick, he understands his best friend's reasons and lets him go.
Al llegar a la carretera, Daryl se siente acorralado entre Merle y el grupo, por un lado sabe perfectamente que el accionar de Merle es grave y errado y que el grupo tiene toda la razón de no querer aceptarlo entre los muros de la prisión, pero por otro lado, Merle es su hermano y lo ama por más bruto que sea, y tiene en su mente todas las veces que le cuido o estuvo ahí para él, es así como lo que decide es frenar a Merle de cometer estupideces en contra de Rick o su grupo y no volver a la prisión para acompañar y cuidarle la espalda a su hermano y aunque la decisión entristece a Rick, entiende las razones de su mejor amigo y le deja marchar.
However, as soon as they start to walk away from each other, Daryl and Merle start to clash and argue because Daryl is a totally different man and is no longer Merle's shadow, he no longer just follows his brother's orders, but replicates him in everything and shows his true personality, an observation that Merle makes in one of the best dialogues in the show. Fed up with Merle's attitude and behaviour, Daryl screams at him that he will return to his group, and because Merle is just as loyal as his brother, he decides to follow him. He is accepted into the prison because, along with Daryl, he defends Rick and his people from a horde.
Sin embargo, apenas y empiezan a caminar para alejarse por su lado, Daryl y Merle empiezan a chocar y discutir dado a que Daryl es un hombre totalmente diferente y ya no es la sombra de Merle, ya no se limita a seguir las ordenes de su hermano, sino que le replica en todo y muestra su verdadera personalidad, observación que le hace Merle en uno de los mejores diálogos que tiene la serie. Harto de la actitud y comportamiento de Merle, Daryl le manifiesta a los gritos que volverá con su grupo, y debido a que Merle es igual de leal que su hermano, decide seguirlo. Es aceptado en la prisión porque junto con Daryl, defiende a Rick y los suyos de una horda.
Merle reluctantly has to behave himself and after so many mistakes, he finally makes one last mistake, only this one has noble motives. He attempts to kill the leader of Woodbury by himself to atone for his sins with Rick's group, dying in the attempt and becoming a Walker, where he is discovered by Daryl in a very touching scene.
Merle a regañadientes tiene que comportarse y tras tantos errores, finalmente comete un último error, solo que éste tiene nobles motivos. Intenta matar al líder de Woodbury él solo, para expiar sus pecados con el grupo de Rick, muriendo en el intento y convirtiéndose en Caminante, donde es descubierto por Daryl en una muy emotiva escena.
In the wake of Merle's death, Daryl focuses on his group and Rick, whom he comes to see as a brother, and in fact, Rick's children begin to call him "uncle" once they are old enough.
A raíz de la muerte de Merle, Daryl se enfoca en su grupo y en Rick a quien termina viendo como un hermano y de hecho, los hijos de éste comienzan a llamarlo "tío" una vez crecen lo suficiente.
When Rick "dies" Daryl remains in his role as right-hand man, this time to Rick's wife Michonne, and when she goes on a trip, he automatically becomes the leader of the community in which they have been living for some time. Daryl developed special feelings for Beth, whose death caused him a kind of trauma where he even hurt himself to endure the pain, he later developed a relationship with a woman who ended up becoming, along with his group, a threat to him and his people and with much pain, Daryl again chose his unwavering loyalty to his group.
Cuando Rick "muere" Daryl se mantiene en su rol de mano derecha, esta vez de Michonne, la mujer de Rick y cuando ésta se va de viaje, él automáticamente pasa a ser el líder de la comunidad en la que viven desde hace un tiempo. Daryl desarrolló sentimientos especiales por Beth, cuya muerte le ocasionó un tipo de trauma donde incluso se hirió a sí mismo para soportar el dolor, posteriormente desarrolló una relación con una mujer que terminó convirtiéndose, junto a su grupo, en una amenaza para él y su gente y con bastante dolor, Daryl eligió nuevamente su lealtad inquebrantable hacia su grupo.
Today, Daryl lives in a new community much larger than his own and has custody of Rick and Michonne's children, and while he's a lot softer than he started out as, he's still a man of his own when it comes to standing up for his people and fighting injustice.
Actualmente, Daryl vive en una nueva comunidad bastante más grande que la suya y está a cargo de la custodia de los hijos de Rick y Michonne, y aunque es bastante más blando que en un inicio, sigue siendo un hombre de armas tomar cuando se trata de defender a los suyos y combatir injusticias.
In short, Daryl Dixon was a man whose initial personality was a reflection of his older brother's personality, who in his eagerness to make him a tough and unbreakable guy, forced him to behave indirectly like him, in a reprehensible, unempathetic and violent way, while instilling in him gratitude and loyalty when they received something good from someone else. However, in his brother's absence, having lost his role model, Daryl had to make decisions for himself and as a result, brought out his true personality, volatile, violent and brusque in equal measure, yes, but a little more sensible and intelligent. As he lived with the different personalities in the group, his personality was forged anew on the basis of intelligence over impulse, nobility, reinforcement of his loyalty, family ties.... Daryl remained a loyal, brave, strong and somewhat haughty but loving, funny, happy, noble and smarter man. One of the best characters in The Walking Dead and one of the most developed throughout its 11 seasons.
En resumen, Daryl Dixon era un hombre cuya personalidad inicial era un reflejo de la personalidad de su hermano mayor, el cuál en su afán por hacerlo un tipo duro e inquebrantable, le obligaba a comportarse indirectamente como él, de forma reprobable, poco empática y violenta, eso sí, inculcándole la gratitud y lealtad cuando recibieran algo bueno de alguien más. Sin embargo, en la ausencia de su hermano, habiendo perdido a su modelo a seguir, Daryl tuvo que tomar decisiones por él mismo y como resultado, sacó a la luz su verdadera personalidad, volátil, violenta y brusca de igual forma sí, pero un poco más sensato e inteligente. Con la convivencia con las diferentes personalidades del grupo, su personalidad se forjó de nuevo en base a la inteligencia por encima del impulso, la nobleza, el refuerzo de su lealtad, los lazos familiares... Daryl siguió siendo un hombre leal, valiente, fuerte y algo altanero pero amoroso, gracioso, feliz, noble y más inteligente. Uno de los mejores personajes de The Walking Dead y con mayor desarrollo a lo largo de sus 11 temporadas.
