CineTV is doing a colab with NFT Studios and the topic is "What games have you enjoyed that are also movies?"
There is a good amount of games turned into movies and movies turned into games. And i played/watched decent amount of them.
While reading post there was one game movie combination that popped in my mind, but i wanted to do some mind refreshing to see what is out there that i maybe forgot. I must admit i forgot about some that were decent.
There were few obvious ones like Lara Croft, Resident Evil,. I did not get into the games, mostly because they were console games at the time and i did not have a console (PC gamer from forever). And that could be my pick because from what i know games were fun and i did enjoy Resident Evil movies and Lara Croft was ok.
Then there are games that i enjoyed and thought movies could be fun, but i have vague recollection of even watching them. Few examples would be Max Pain and Hitmen. Loved Max Pain when it came out, the atmosphere was great, bullet time slow-motion was fun. Movie i almost don't remember. The same thing with Hitmen. Played at least 5 of them, movie fairly average.
Then there are some weird ones like Postal. The game was utterly ridiculous, but also fun. I am not even sure would anyone publish it in this day and age. The movie was the same and pretty funny for the period it was made.
One game/movies combo that i did not find on any of the list while searching (i was surprised about that fact) and that is the game/movie that popped in my mind first:
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay / Pitch Black (Riddick series)
Year 2000 Pitch Black came out. Science fiction action horror movie. As a sucker for Sci-fi watched it first opportunity i got and really liked it. Move is set in the distant future, spaceship transporting passengers has an accident and crash lands on a strange planet. One of the passengers is Riddick, a dangerous criminal who escaped from Butcher Bay, but was cough and transported back to prison.
Survivors realize that the planet looks abandoned and has 3 suns so it is always day time. First their main problem is Riddick with reputation of notorious criminal and killer. As they try to find a way out from the planet, they stumble upon an abandoned research settlement. Exploring they realize that total eclipse is coming and there is something dangerous in the dark.
Movie is interesting, has good pace. The story is nothing really ground braking or mind blowing, but it is interesting and mostly done good. Vin Diesel stared in decent amount of movies and my thought is that Riddick character suited him great. Writing this i found out that he thought the same as he mortgage his house to make Riddick (3th movie in the series).
The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay came out in 2004. It is a first-person action/stealth game based in the The Chronicles of Riddick universe. It is a prequel for Pitch Black movie. You play as Riddick, trying to survive and escape the prison. There is also a mystery about Riddicks race and heritage.
Vin Diesel was involved in the game and was the voice of Riddick in it. Watching the movie first, him voice acting gave the game a nice touch and he did a good job. For the period when it came out game had really good graphics and overall good implementation of stealth, action and adventure elements. Also won some rewards.
I do remember having a lot of fun playing it. Also weirdly i still remember one quote from it "It ain't the fall that gets 'ya, it's the sudden stop at the bottom"
After that there was an Animated short movie The Chronicles of Riddick: Dark Fury and 2 more movies The Chronicles of Riddick and Riddick.
I just realized that Riddick 4: Furya was announced by Vin Diesel and screenwriter David Twohy. They say the script is finished but in 2021 filming did not started yet. I know i will watch it and it will most probably be interesting.
