The film is directed by Shawn Levy and takes place 5 years after The Rise of Skywalker
Lucasfilm has officially announced Star Wars: Starfighter, a new feature film directed by Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine) and starring Ryan Gosling, scheduled for release on May 28, 2027. The film will take place five years after the end of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
The news was revealed during Star Wars Celebration, with confirmation that production will begin next fall.
Not many details have been revealed about Star Wars: Starfighter except that Gosling will be playing an entirely new character.
In a touching moment, Gosling revealed that his mother sent him an old photo of his Star Wars-inspired bedspreads when he got the role.
Star Wars: Starfighter will be part of the new wave of Star Wars films, alongside The Mandalorian & Grogu, upcoming works from Sharmeen Obed-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Taika Waititi, as well as a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg.
By the way, for those wondering about the name, yes, Star Wars: Starfighter was also the title of a video game released in 2001!
