A pesar que ya pasó el concurso sobre las bandas sonoras de las películas, y no pude participar, la idea quedó sembrada en mi cabeza, sentía la necesidad de decir algo a partir de esto. Muchas películas me han cautivado con su sonido, lo que considero que es muy difícil de lograr, pues soy una persona más del tipo visual que auditivo. Pero esta película me mantiene atrapada, por más de una razón. Esta no es otra que Cruella.

La verdad es que soy amante de todo lo vintage, de la moda e iconografía de épocas pasadas, por lo que cuando conocí a estas películas, me quedé enamorada de la estética y de como la música nos conducía por la historia. Así que voy a tratar de explicar que tienen de fascinantes para mi.

Even though the contest on movie soundtracks has already passed, and I could not participate, the idea was planted in my head, I felt the need to say something from this. Many films have captivated me with their sound, which I think is very difficult to achieve, as I am more of a visual person than an auditory one. But this movie keeps me gripped, for more than one reason. This is none other than Cruella.

The truth is that I am a lover of all things vintage, fashion and iconography of past eras, so when I met these films, I fell in love with the aesthetics and how the music led us through the story. So I'm going to try to explain what's so fascinating about them for me.

Cruella

Tengo una natural resistencia a las secuelas, pero una absoluta simpatía por Emma Stone, así que ni por un minuto dudé en ver Cruella, ya había visto a esta mujer en todas sus versiones, animadas y de acción real, pero me faltaba esta, que narra el origen de esta tragicómico personaje y rescata su imagen al son de las mejores canciones de la época.

Adoro la ambientación de Londres de finales de los 60's y principios de los 70's, la moda expresada de diferentes maneras, no solo la de la alta costura (fascinante también) pero mucho más ese estilo que nació en Londres en aquellos años: el punk, estilo con el cual me he sentido identificada, aunque con menos rigor, a lo largo de mi vida. Por lo que siento que nuestra Cruella viene siendo la representación de la grandiosa diseñadora Vivienne Westwood, una de mis favoritas, y pionera en el diseño de moda disruptivo.

I have a natural resistance to sequels, but an absolute sympathy for Emma Stone, so not for a minute I hesitated to see Cruella, I had already seen this woman in all its versions, animated and live action, but I was missing this one, which tells the origin of this tragicomic lady and rescues her image to the sound of the best songs of the time.

I love the London setting of the late 60's and early 70's, the fashion expressed in different ways, not only the haute couture (fascinating too) but also that style that was born in London in those years: punk, a style with which I have felt identified, although less rigorously, throughout my life. So I feel that our Cruella is the representation of the great designer Vivienne Westwood, one of my favorites, and a pioneer in disruptive design.

En la banda sonora nos paseamos por el blues más sonoro y las canciones más emblemáticas de los 60 y 70's. Incluso pareciera que la música nos hablara de los pensamientos de la protagonista y sus deseos más profundos.

La película usa la música como una manera de ofrecer un metamensaje difícil de ignorar, así nos vamos situando en el discurso conceptual de la estética de la película, sino también en el discurso argumental, dejando claro quienes son los personajes y sus intenciones.

Each piece of music chosen for Cruella's soundtrack masterfully portrays not only the era in which it is set, but also Cruella and her funny and often controversial personality. In the soundtrack we stroll through the most sonorous blues and the most emblematic songs of the 60's and 70's. It even seems that the music speaks to us of the thoughts of the protagonist and her deepest desires.

The film uses music as a way to offer a metamessage difficult to ignore, so we are placed in the conceptual discourse of the aesthetics of the film, but also in the argumental discourse, making clear who are the characters and their intentions.

Me gustaría poner de ejemplo la escena donde Cruella se queda haciendo horas extras y además toma una cantidad suficiente de licor para atreverse a cambiar la escenografía de la vitrina de la tienda donde trabaja limpiando, es el comienzo de su transformación de Estella a Cruella, en este impulso que la lleva a desarrollar una instalación artística con mirada punk, es cuando deja aflorar toda su creatividad sin temor y sin esconderse, el cambio es increíble, pues siempre sus habilidades fueron usadas como medio para cometer sus fechorías y no como medio de expresión artística, la canción que nos demuestra como se siente no es otra que Feeling Good de Nina Simone, un hermoso himno al renacimiento y la esperanza de un nuevo día lleno de oportunidades.

Y como no notar que cuando nuestra protagonista por fin alcanza su sueño de ser una gran diseñadora, y obtiene todo lo que le han negado y se hace dueña de la fortuna y los castillos de la malvada madre que le tocó, mediante un plan maestro (y macabro), que además asume el apellido DeVil podemos escuchar la emblemática canción de los Rolling Stones, Simpatía por el diablo, dejando el gusto de verla triunfar ante la malvada Baronesa von Hellman, que su nombre también hace referencia al infierno. Demostrando que el guion fue mejor pensado de lo que nos pudiéramos imaginar.

And how not to notice that when our protagonist finally achieves her dream of being a great designer, and gets everything she has been denied and becomes the owner of the fortune and castles of the evil mother who touched her, through a master plan (and macabre), which also assumes the surname DeVil sounds, the iconic song of the Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the devil, leaving the taste of seeing her triumph before the evil Baroness von Hellman, whose name also refers to hell.
