An IT employee suffering from agoraphobia discovers a recording of a violent crime and tries to report it before her superiors.

Kimi is a movie made for HBO Max, with an interesting narrative that I found on the platform and decided to give it a try to see what's new from the director. To give my personal opinion of this movie I am going to divide it into two parts. The first half is dedicated to introducing us to Angela, a girl who suffers from agoraphobia after the pandemic and works for the Amygdala company (something like Amazon) solving Kimi's command errors, which is a kind of Alexa. During this part of the film we see a part of post-covid society portrayed, showing us how the virus forced us to interact in an extraordinary way, which later became ordinary. And in turn, we see how everyone deals with the situation in their own way, of course, some more affected than others.

The plot begins when Angela listens to one of Kimi's recordings, what sounds like a violent crime against a woman. What she confirms after investigating it, she checks what happened and seeks support in the company to file the complaint with the F.B.I.

Kimi es una película realizada para HBO Max, con una narrativa interesante que encontré en la plataforma y decidí darle una oportunidad para ver lo nuevo del director. Para dar mi opinión personal de esta película la voy a dividir en dos partes. La primera mitad se dedica a presentarnos a Angela, una chica que después de la pandemia sufre de agorafobia y trabaja para la compañía Amígdala (algo tipo Amazon) resolviendo errores de comando de Kimi que es una especie de Alexa. Durante esta parte de la cinta vemos retratada una parte de la sociedad post-covid, mostrándonos como el virus nos obligó a interactuar en una forma extraordinaria, que luego se volvió ordinaria. Y a su vez vemos como cada quien sobre lleva la situación a su manera, por supuesto, algunos más afectados que otros.

La trama arranca cuando Ángela escucha en una de las grabaciones de Kimi, lo que suena como un crimen violento contra una mujer. Lo que confirma luego de investigarlo, comprueba lo sucedido y busca el apoyo en la empresa para presentar la denuncia ante el F.B.I.

In the second half, it becomes a thriller that interacts more with photography, giving great weight to the frames and totally changing the narrative resource. I really liked the way that Steven Soderbergh represents through the approach, the plane and the camera tracking what it means for Angela to leave home. And this only increases as the story progresses. This is just a small sample of how broad the language of cinema is. Everything starts to happen very quickly, for a moment I remembered Tom Cruise in Eyes Wide Shut, but in Kimi it goes at a fast pace where the action is governed by Angela's survival instinct that goes from paranoia to real danger.

There is a scene that caught my attention and that is when Angela goes to the Amygdala facility and they do a security scan of her retina, which identifies her, but she has never had a scan done for the database, when asking how is that possible, the answer is that the scans are done through videoconferences and that they are authorized by the users once they accept the terms and conditions of the application.

En la segunda mitad se convierte en un thriller que interactúa más con la fotografía dándole un gran peso a los fotogramas y cambiando totalmente el recurso narrativo, me ha agradado enormemente la forma en que Steven Soderbergh, representa a través del enfoque, el plano y los travellings de cámara lo que significa para Ángela salir de casa. Y esto solo va incrementándose a medida que avanza la historia. Esto es solo una pequeña muestra de lo amplio que es el lenguaje cinematográfico. Todo comienza a pasar muy rápido, por un momento recordé a Tom Cruise en Eyes Wide Shut, pero en Kimi va a un ritmo acelerado donde la acción está regida por el instinto de supervivencia de Angela que pasa de la paranoia a un peligro real.

Hay una escena que me llamó mucho la atención y es cuando Angela va a las instalaciones de Amígdala le hacen un escáner de seguridad de la retina, el cual la identifica, pero ella nunca se ha hecho un escáner para la base de datos, al preguntar cómo es eso posible, la respuesta es que los escaneos los hacen a través de las videoconferencias y que son autorizado por los usuarios una vez que aceptan los términos y condiciones de la aplicación.

Kimi is a humble proposal that, without being pretentious, portrays a couple of very important issues in today's society, such as the influence of the pandemic on people and their interactions, as well as the issue of computer security and confidentiality. of our data. Presented through a classic but fresh narrative at the same time. It's entertaining, it's 89 minutes long and I think it's worth giving it a try.

Kimi es una propuesta humilde que, sin ser pretenciosa, retrata un par de temas muy importante de la sociedad actual, como lo son la influencia de la pandemia en las personas y sus interacciones, así como también el tema de la seguridad informática y la confidencialidad de nuestros datos. Presentado a través de una narrativa clásica pero fresca a la vez. Es entretenida, dura 89 minutos y creo que vale la pena darle una oportunidad.
