Hello, Cine and music lovers.
Opa! Opa!: Greek music in film and series (part 2)
The Simpsons
Season 27, Episode 10
"Homer goes Greek..."
Homer loses his job in the nuclear power plant, so he seeks his old job as a busboy at a Greek restaurant. The owner puts on the Zorba record and everything goes Greek... Ouzo, syrtaki and lots of opas! and we all dance to the syrtaki melody.
Lucille Ball with her her spontaneous character gets into trouble once again and "lends" her uncle's house to a young couple to marry. Of course, the wedding is Greek and they will all dance the famous syrtaki together...
The wire (2003)
As Greek people are involved in the plot, it 's quite normal to have a Greek song as a background music. But in this scene, the song by Stelios Kazantzidis is entirely consistent with the development of the case. "he's gone, he's gone" say the lyrics and that is exactly what is happening in these moments
Who pays the ferryman (1977)
A BBc series based on the myth of Charon, the boatman that carried the souls of the dead to Hades. As the myth goes, the dead had to pay Charon (the ferryman) two coins as a fare for his boat. Yannis Markopoulos composed the music and it reached the UK charts in 1977.
Elite (Season 2, Episode 6-2019)
In the end, a modern greek song! as heard in Elite series at Netflix. Eleni Foureira brings fire, "Fuego" in the series. The song was a runner up for Eurovision 2018 and a huge summer hit all over the world.
Bonus part: Not a series or a film, but one of the funniest ads I have watched and has syrtaki music in it. The only problem is that I cannot find it in better resolution.
(Note to moderators: Sorry if it is irrelevant. If it is a problem, I will delete it)
