Could you tell a lot of negatives about her? Might.
I could say that its structure is irregular and in the script there is hardly any cohesion between each scene. They happen in a somewhat artificial way.
I could say that they leave thousands of things in the pipeline, as it hardly investigates the history of Queen or its members.
I could say that the repertoire of songs is not excessively large.
I could say that not all characters get a lot of depth.
I could say that it resorts to some clichés.
One could say...
But you know what? I can also say something different. I can respond to all those demands. I can, and I prefer to do it.
I can say that it strikes the perfect balance between music and history. Some claim that the story should have been given more time. However, they would have left us less music if that had happened, and that would not be good. In the same way, the story would have been too neglected with a greater focus on the musical section. Fortunately, neither of these two options have occurred.
I can say that, although the script is full of shortcomings, these are easily overshadowed by immense interpreters and an agile, daring, creative direction and why not? Excellent. The lack of depth of the characters in the script is perfectly supplemented by the talent of the actors and the synergy that exists between them. They bring that personality and charisma necessary to give a life of their own to the people they play, completely fooling the audience into believing that they are the true members of Queen without us doubting it for a single second. They are a family. They work together and separately. They are the misfits who play for other misfits in the back of the room... and they belong to them.
Rami Malek. I never thought that name would go down in the annals of history. How wrong I was. He has exceeded all expectations. Anything I add is unnecessary. Just because they don't give him the Oscar for Best Actor this year, I'm going to be forced to shit on someone.
Extravagant. Powerful. Breaker. Unique. Of course, I remember that nobody is left behind in the cast: every performance in this film is fantastic.
Bryan Singer (or whoever, there is confusion) has also been a vital piece in giving Bohemian Rhapsody its energy and vitality. The duration is no small feat (2 hours and 15 minutes), but it passes in the blink of an eye thanks to a devilish rhythm and images that cling to the retina. When it comes to conveying the emotion and feeling of the film, our director joins the magnificent cast and they deliver an inimitable result. A whole show of sensations with unbeatable music (can we agree that this is one of the best soundtracks in film history?) That makes us feel more love for Queen than we already had.
And even though it may seem impossible at first, it creates a competent drama behind the scenes. It makes us suffer, it tears us apart and reminds us of the protagonist's tragedy. Freddie's evolution influenced by the subtle (and evil) character of Paul is sheer brilliance. The final conclusion with Jim Hutton is simply gorgeous.
We are facing a love letter to what has possibly been the greatest musical group of all time. It does not matter that you know more or less about it: we will all be able to enjoy it equally. Likewise, don't expect to leave the movie theater knowing all about the band, either. Do not go to see the film with the intention of witnessing a detailed biography of Queen, as it is not the objective. We are facing an "experience" rather than a "movie" itself. It works as the perfect re-enactment of a concert for all of us who were not at that time, and a final live performance for all of us who were. Live the. Feel it. Worry about the rest later.
Bohemian Rhapsody makes numerous mistakes. It is an imperfect film like the most, but even so I forgive it, because it gives off a pure passion and a very powerful contagious feeling that is very, very difficult to find in today's cinema. There's an infinite affection put into every damn frame that it's impossible not to fall in love with, and that automatically makes any gaffe that happened along the way seem insignificant.
Accounts Summary: Anyone who has not yet seen these films is that neither loves movies and good music
