We witnessed the release of many interesting and captivating shows in the 90s that kept most people glued to their TV. I fondly remember sitcoms like Friends, House; teenage series like Beverly Hills 90210; police/detective shows like Law and Order and fantasy dramas like Buffy, the Vampire Slayer, Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, etc.
I loved watching these shows and they ran for many seasons. I looked forward to every episode and would get together with friends and discuss them. When some of these shows ended, we were unhappy but there's never a dull moment with Hollywood and other entertainment producers. New shows always come on screen!
Because of my love for fantasy dramas, I'll say Charmed (1998-2006) is one of my favourite 90s shows.
It's a fantasy drama about three sisters who were also powerful good witches tasked with protecting the innocent from evil beings like warlocks, demons and bad witches. They were called the Charmed Ones and when their powers are combined into one, they become fiercesome.
Every episode was epic as the sisters tried to live normal lives with jobs and relationships while battling evil beings and protecting people. One issue they faced often was keeping their supernatural identity hidden from the world and whoever they were dating.
I admired how united the sisters were. I could not decide whether I liked one sister more than the others but I certainly enjoyed the action parts of the series more. This involved displaying their magical powers and combining them to defeat evil.
At the end of the second season, the first sister Prue Halliwell (Shannen Doherty) was killed off the show and I was unhappy about it but later got to know it was due to a falling out between the actresses.
When the reboot was announced in 2018, I was not sure the producers would do a good job. The old Charmed series was the best till I watched the reboot and I am impressed. In the reboot, they made few changes and modernised the sisters' lifestyle.
Confidentially, the first sister in the reboot, Macy Vaughan (Madeleine Mantock) was taken off the show at the end of the second season, just like the first Charmed series. The reason is also based on a falling out! Is that weird or what? Now I wonder how the new series will end but I'm sure it won't be like the old one.
