I love to read novels and watch movies. Whenever I see a book-to-screen adaptation, I get excited because, finally, I get to 'see' the things I read about live in motion pictures. One question that is frequently asked is: which is better —book or movie? And my answer is usually the book!
This is because I discovered that it was not possible to translate a 300 to 1000 page novel into a two or three-hour movie! When I came to terms with this reality, I just relaxed and enjoyed the movies instead. Some movie adaptations are great while some are pitiful. Some of my favourite book-to-screen adaptations are:
Harry Potter

No doubt, this film series is universally loved. I enjoyed reading the books and watching the movies. Harry Potter fantasy film series is based on the books written by J. K. Rowling, a popular British author. The Harry Potter series is about a young boy named Harry Potter who attends Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry so he could be groomed as a wizard. He had quite some adventures in Hogwarts with his friends and fellow wizards: Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley whenever he faced the villain, Lord Voldemort.
As much as I enjoyed the books, I was not disappointed watching the film series even though there was quite a lot from the books that was missing in the film. In visualizing magic, the filmmakers did great.
Pride and Prejudice

This is one classic I not only enjoyed reading but also watching. This was one of my introductions to British period dramas written by Jane Austen. The movie released in 2005 and directed by Joe Wright starring Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennett is the best for me. I tried to watch another adaptation but this one stuck with me.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before

I came across this easy to read YA romance novel by American author, Jenny Han, I almost underestimated it. It turned out to be an entertaining and delightful novel. I immediately followed it up with the two sequels. After watching the movie, I commended the makers. They did an awesome job.
The Hating Game

I watched this movie in December, last year and was not disappointed. The movie is based on a novel of the same name by Sally Thorne starring Lucy Hale and Austin Howell as star actors in it. The adaptation was just fantastic down to the tiniest details like colours. Still some parts were omitted but they were not important ones.
The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogy

These film series are epic high fantasy based on novels of the same name by English writer and poet, J. R. R. Tolkien. Although I have not read the books, the film series is epic and quite a major financial success. They are universally loved and therefore among the highest-grossing film series of all time. Having watched these films, I don't know if I could still read the books.
These are some of my favourite book-to-screen adaptations. What are yours? Thank you visiting my blog.
